On return from my last patrol, I recieved a simple message from BdU saying "Restrictions against American shipping have now been removed"

Now, its December 25th 1941, and I have an urge now to hop into a IXC boat, and hit the harbour of New York if there's anything in there, or something juicy near the US coast.

My patrol I just finished had me down near Freetown, and in a VIIC boat I had barely enough fuel to get back to base. So, especially now American shipping is free game, I'm thinking its time for a IXC boat.

U94 has served me and my crew well, but its time to make a boat change.

IXC....here I come!!!! :rock: And America, watch out, as Kaleun Marten Braune will be popping into your harbours soon. Keep your ships locked up unless you want em sunk :arrgh!:

Could always take the small realism hit and select unlimited fuel if you really want to do a few missions in the gulf and then get back to the east missions.

Even with TC it can be a long trip to the states and back :up:

Well, I don't mind that. The longest patrol to date infact was the patrol I completed down near Freetown. A 44 day patrol it was. But, I've always wanted to see the Statue of Liberty from the view of my Periscope.

And if I get lucky, maybe we'll sink a battleship while we're sightseeing :)

Can I just ask, for the Kaleuns who make the long trip to the coast of the US, what speed do you guys normally sail at? I'm closing in on the US coast, and in a IXC boat, and i've used up nearly half of my fuel. I've been sailing at ahead 1/3, cruising at 11 knots and diving regularly to run the batteries rather than my diesels.

but, i'm wondering if i'll even be able to make it home now when my mission off the coast is complete.

Does anyone go for a fuel stop in the Canary Islands before they head to the US coast?

Yes, but it depends upon the type of boat I have.

Drop to 9, 8, 7or 7 knots (I usually choose 9) and you'll see a big jump in your range vs. ahead 1/3 (11 knots).

eh? i made it to New York from st nazaire at 2/3 speed (12 kts) in a VIIC
made it back to U-some-or-other supply sub off the coast and then hopped back home from convoy to convoy

an interesting 2,5 months

I've made 2 trips to Caribbean and one to USA coast doing 7 knots . Returned with slightly less than 20% fuel remaining in the bunkers.

Well, i think i'm gonna have to use the "Return to Base" option after this patrol. I've burned up too much fuel to make it back across the Atlantic when i'm finished in New York.

I´ve made some trips to the us coast.

in the first i started one month before us enter in the war, so i arrived in front of new york 10 days before the war declaration in a Ix-B boat.

it was very funny see at close range and surfaced some U.S destroyers sailing like in a holidays time.
Great mistake boys...after some days i return to germany with 80.000 tons of allied shipping, all in lone ships without any protection and in well know routes, and with good weather so i can finish some ships with the gun and sunk some fishing boats.

I had fuel for arrive and return but in my patrol zone i stayed dived during the day and recharging batteries at night because i was near to the 50 % of fuel expended.

I'm also moving from Africa/Freetown to the US (I hope!) in early 1942, so I have a question for those who have been there. Do the merchant ships have deck guns fitted like the British merchants? Seems like it would be good deck-gunning territory.

What is the maximum nautica miles a IX model can last if it use the recommand speed for its kind. For a VII model i think it is around 8000 nm at 8 knots, not sure, i always play 100% unrealism!:nope: :nope: :nope: :nope:
