Hi,

I am in my first patrol. It is the 1040hrs on 1st Sep 1939. Germany at war with Poland. I am about 70nms WSW the Scilly Isles when I get a radio message; 'Neutral convoy hdg SW slow'. about 50 nms north of my position.
Plan I'll follow it ultill the 3rd then attack!

Then:
1040 hrs 'ship sighted 077 short range'. It's closing so I go full left rudder, and crash dive.
1041 Attack periscope Destroyed
Control room damaged
Both diesels damaged.
Lots more too numerous to list.
My last glimpse of the destroyer as I dive shows that it's got three stacks POLISH Bourrasque class

Now what I'd like to know is;
First how can there be a Polish destroyer operating with a British convoy on 1/9/39. It can't have got from Poland to England and been allocated to convoy escort duties probably out of Liverpoll or Bristol by the first of Seotember.

What would be the political ramifications a) if I had attacked the convoy and b) if this had happened in real life?

What are the British doing using convoys in peacetime. I'd already followed a similar convoy of 14 British ships on August 1oth.

Phobus.

With that sort of luck so early in your career I should imagine at least half your crew are seeking transfers into the army

Or the Luftwaffe! :D
If you are using the GWX 2.0 or the GWX 2.1 a good advice its too read with no worry the manual...to beter understand the politics, military actions, and allies pacts of the beginning of the Worl War II. :yep:

hmmm, that is ever so slightly odd, yes

Possibly you getting your boat blown full of holes is another of those Polish shenanigans like the "attack" on the radio station at Gliewitz that started this whole mess in the first place

Nevertheless, it is extremely inaccurate historically but given the scripting limitations of the game, I'm afraid that sort of thing cannot be entirely avoided...

and what were you doing chasing after a convoy that was reported as neutral anyway...at this point in the timeline you should still be following the prize rules as set by the London treaty of 1936 :know:

Ummm. Should we court marshal Phobus to make things more interesting?

Hi, I was intending to follow this 'neutral' convoy 'till the 3rd Sep then see what happened. I did not intend attacking before then. It's called initiatve! So no Court Martial please.

It's a very up to date tactics to follow a contact and wait a war to break out!

Oh, all right hten, initiative, agressiveness, that's ok

No courtmartialling then, but you'll have to beat out some of the dents from your boat yourself, there's a war on don't you know....:D
