Always get sunk by destroyers. I have realism at 0 still slow load time and slow repair. I really suck at this. This is my first cp sub game and so far, I do not enjoy it at all.
Please any help would be appreciated. I have upgraded to 1.4v patch.
Is there any cheat codes or mods?

Dude, you suck. Better off playing Barbie's Horse Adventures. (just kidding).
Cheat codes? What!? Don't say that word around here. We have die-hard realists here. Here's what to do- just spend some time practicing. There's tons of info on how to get around things. Folks here are good at advice giving. Have fun and stay away from Peabody-he's stinky and DJFL- he's plumb nuts!:yep::lol:

First,
welcome to subsim...you came to the right place for help! First off, if this is your first time playing a submarine sim, it's quite an adjustment from other games/sims. If you're having trouble with destroyers, my first guess is that they may have spotted your sub or it's scope. Stealth is the name of the game with subs. I would recommend reading some of the sticky threads for excellent tips and advice. SH4 is an excellent game, so try not to get discouraged. Once you get a hang of things, there are some wonderful mods that can be found here in the mods section. Anyways, best of luck, and hang in there!
Good hunting,

I would recommend just staying away from the DDs until you have your boat handling skills down. Attack lone or unescorted targets only until boat handling is second nature and you have some idea how to reliably shoot a torpedo.
These DD skippers are good. You are not--yet. Take it slow. Don't get sucked into using manual targeting or fancy techniques by us fanatics.
And welcome to SUBSIM!
Rockin is right--avoid escorted convoys. They are the most fun, but later for you.
Some general guildlines for when you do attack an escorted convoy:
get in front of the convoy or 2000 yards off to one side and submerge below the thermal layer, 200 ft or so.
after the escort goes by (blue sound line on your map) go to periscope depth.
find targets and shoot (you should be using auto targeting). dont forget to open your torpedo doors or you shots will hit rear of your aim point. also, preset your torps to medium (that is the highest there is).
after you've shot at everything in range or all tubes are empty release a decoy and dive deep. start at 250 feet but be ready to go lower. watch your map (or external view - F12) to see if escorts are coming to you. if they are go to silent running and go deeper. release another decoy. orient your sub so the smallest siloette (sp) shows to the escorts. creep away until safe.
There are a few additional techniques but that is enuf for now.
Think stealth, think sneaky.

I completed my first career mission! I got my sub and crew back with no damage and no injuries!! I finally did it. Thanks again for all your suggestions and comments.
Silence is the name of the game here.
I allways go deep and silent if I have been spotted. I the escort is close/on approach I stop the engines.

You won't really offend most of us just by trying to learn the game. The best thing to do is take your time, and practice a lot with the external view. That, and stick around here and gather all the info you can. And don't forget to ask a lot of questions.
Oh, and congrats on that successful patrol!

No offence taken, dude. Glad you got your feet wet in SH4. When you get good enough it's fun. Convoy attacking is daunting sometimes but stealth is the name of the game. By nature I'm a flight simmer and used to the old Tally-Ho attitude. It's different with sub sims. Oh, and Welcome to Subsim! Now, excuse me I have to throw Rockin Robbins overboard.:rotfl:

Welcome aboard, skipper! It's always good to see someone new come into the genre. You've found the most helpful sim community on the net, IMO, and plenty of people here will be glad to help you out if you need it.

Question: I took on a convoy and survived. Took damage. Damage Control repaired all. Have Green accross the board. Stayed on surface until damage was repaired. Now when I submerge below 10m to periscope depth, my sub collaspes and implodes. I saved game after all repairs. Loaded saved game and I went to Midway to get refitted via the surface. Even after rfitting, same thing happens. Sub sinks every time I submerge. Help Please:damn:

Check the number for HULL DAMAGE on the left side of your Damage Control screen. If it's a high number (40-50-60 or more) you're sailing around in an eggshell. It won't take much pressure to crush it. Refitting doesn't fix hull damage.

What fixes hull damage? End Mission?

Yes, end your mission at your home base. You'll start out fresh on next patrol.
