View Full Version : RN Type 2 submarine
Hi guys
Just a quick question (Well, two..) Firstly, tooling about around the Orkney's I caught a single Type 2 surfaced at 1 knot in clear weather, (needless to say, it and its crew is now sleeping with the fishes) but when I flipped through my on-baord 'Janes', I couldn't find a tonnage listing for it. I'd already sunk some 50K GRT and was planning to do simple maths but then got hammered by two destroyers (Bernard has a lot to answer for!!!!) - both of which I sunk...eventually...and neither of which I was careful enough to note down as to their type (they were two separate types and I was more concerned about getting home in time for dinner). Having downed them, I then stumble upon a supply ship and coastal tanker in convoy. By the time I'd dispatched both of them, my tonnage was up to some 64K...so I'm still left wondering what a Type 2 is worth.
In fair weather, I'm loath to waste an eel on anything less then 2,000GRT (angry escorts, notwithstanding), but my ego got the better of me and I had to sink a sub. Which leads into my second question:
How many Kaleun have sunk an enemy submarine - with torpedoes only?

I personaly i dont waste a torpedo against such small targets...for me its a artillery mater lol i try to avoid the enemy fire manouvering my U-boat to a position witch was favourable to me... :)

What's a Type 2 ? http://img98.imageshack.us/img98/1817/thinkbigsw1yo4.gif
I have no idea what a Type 2 is - it looks about the size of the Typ II U-boats, The only info I get on the weapon log next to the periscope view was 'Type 2'. No tonnage was listed in the register for British shipping.. I knew it wasn't one of ours because it was steaming on the surface near Lerwick sub pens and secondly, I wasn't shot when I returned to base,

I have sunk a T class that was attached to a convoy. Apart from one lone DE she was the only warship in the convoy. Knocked off both and went hunting.:arrgh!: Scratch one convoy.

The first of the two screen shots you've posted - that's the li'll sod :yep:
Now the question remains - what's she worth? I almost let her go, but my ego got the better of me (mano e mano and all that testosterone fueled idiocy)
I've done some dumb things in my time in charge of U-108, but surfaced at 1 knot in calm seas and unlimited vis ain't one of them

Ah....many thanks!
A least it was quick... single eel slightly forward of the conning tower. Perhaps those on watch.....but the rest

Probably not the prettiest design of the era....but quite effective in what they were designed to do ;)

apparently you haven't seen the american S-18 in SH4, Looks like a fish, uglier then sin, and yet.....still lethal to enemy shipping,

Indeed, my grandfather served aboard a T class submarine in the Med in WW2. HMS Torbay infact. the commander of the boat, Anthony Miers recieved the VC, but their was some controversy apparently about him shooting a boat load of prisoners of war but it was never actually established.
I've heard a few stories about Torbay. Shame my grandfather died before he could tell me what really happend

Now then, the T Class could spew out a spread of 8 to 10 torpeedos, the only thing to spew out of your VIIC would be a giant turd when faced with one of those monsters!
Then again, the U-boats were a bit faster so you could run away while he works out his firing solution with pencil and paper, or call in the trigger happy RAF to help you - they merrily bombed their own subs on more than one occassion. :rotfl:
Can you beilive it, most of the RN subs were actually fitted with ASDIC!?
I dont belive it ever led to a single one of the 13 Uboat sunk by the British submarine service.
British Sub: PING!!
German Sub "dive to 90 meters"
British Sub "damn.... any one for a cuppa?"
