I wish I could have got this with my digital camera but couldn't. A live webcam will have to suffice. This ship is the American Repbulic. Every so often these big ships unload coal or gravel at the local power plant. This one unloaded some coal. I took a bunch of screen shots of the American Republic leaving our harbor. Here's some additional info on her for anyone interested:

Here are the shots:

I am always surprised how nimble these large ships are. She can turn on a dime. It is amazing how quick she made her turn. I must be playing Silent Hunter too much because during watching her depart the harbor I was wondering her AOB and speed.

Here's a few more pics:

I can control all aspects of the webcam. Here is a shot zoomed out.

This is where she unloaded her coal. No, I don't know what that ring is. I have never seen it before.

At the end of the pics, the American Republic must have been doing about 10 knots or so because she was moving quite fast on the camera. I just love these Great Lakes ships!

Harbour depth?

I need to know if I can submerge, get that breakwater out of the way.

As far as depth, I'm not exactly sure. I think you would probably have a hard time sneaking in. It is between 35 and 45 feet deep. In the first pic you can see the muddy water caused by the ship. The harbor is only about 2-2.5 miles from here. I never know when a ship is there unless it is on its way out. I don't go up there much anymore. Kind of take it for granted. I only knew about this one because I heard it on the scanner. Some guy with what sounded like a heavy French accent said they were departing the harbor. Kind of odd to hear since the ship is owned by American Steamship Company.

That would block the harbor for some time! :o:lol:

I haven't been in the harbor in probably ten years or more. I remember back then it was about 25-30 feet deep. Over the years there have been various dredging projects as Lake levels dropped. :shifty::cry:

Thrusters do wonders for maneuvering these big boys.

As for estimating her AoB? Don't worry, we all do it
