Hello, Ive been lurking on this board for a while and am making my first thread today. Last night I was off the coast of Sydney, Canada hunting the shipping lanes after docking with the Belchin supply boat. The weather was horrid and you couldn't see a damned thing. Shortly after sinking the first cargo vessel the SO picked up a contact that was "stationary" yet "closing" at long range. I ordered the WO out of the break room and onto the deck looking forward to cranking a few fish into some allied tonnage. With the engines running full flank, I watched the contact dissapper...and continued to follow the general direction of the contact. No more than 5 min later I am greeted with the angry sounds of collision and steel grinding (hey it was 2am and I was not expecting this). So I hit back emergency and was amazed to see this monster tearing into my boat.:o
I hung around till morning to get a few screenies of this iceberg for every one to see...

It wasnt the first time I have seen an iceberg in the game...but never have I seen one with such mass...it was truly shocking.
Hope you enjoy the pics...

yeah, i thought so too... I think it was because of an anomaly in the SHIII engine. The weather was really horrid, with the swells dropping my boat to 15 meters (looked like it would drown the crew on the con).
I have seen debris and life boats bounce out of the water like that, and I think its just the limits of the engine itself. The berg didnt actually move like it was bouncing...hell, it didnt move when I hit it.
lol
hey can you blow these things up?
I never even have faced such a thing by day yet
Otherwise I would have played Titanic.

It will be a very nice strategical U-Boat base, for us and got everything we need, its movel, we can keep the food longer in the ice, suberb coktails with fresh ice, and a natural camouflage all the year! :rotfl:
Nice screenshots, jimbuna...
Hm kind of slippery for a base, don't you think ?

The pic while submerged should have shown a mass about 75% larger than what you saw on the surface. Sometimes the submerged portion is upwards of 85% larger than what you see above the waves.

Same here, but I don't think I sail very often where they are though. How far north do you need to go?

Same here, but I don't think I sail very often where they are though. How far north do you need to go? I was in grid BC quadrant 7... this is the farthest south ive ever seen one. All of the other ones Ive seen (including a tight group of three bergs ID'd by my SO as a "convoy") have been east of Greenland.

Wow, thats some amazing "figuring"on those icebergs...nice pics. It seems like Im always encountering bad weather when I run across them.
I am wondering if anyone has approached the modders about correcting the mass issues with burgs? I personally thing that would be even more amazing to see 70%more ice underwater...this as we say "is just the tip of the iceberg".

I normally hunt down in the tropics, so I've never seen one, but cool pics! i just got a couple of books on the St. Lawrence U-Boat war vs. Canada (I imagine it was pretty limited!) so I'm thinking of heading to Canada for a change. Maybe I'll make a detour to get some ice for our drinks!

@Venatore,
Didn't you do the graphics mod in your screen shots?
And didn't your daughter name it?
I don't remember the name at the moment but I know I have it
on one of the servers here at home.

That's hilarious! And a great name for a mod like this, hehe.
Will there be an Ice Age II? (not that there's anything wrong with this one)

300%-500% of what you see over surface, i.e. three to five times more is under water than above water. :)
