Well the launch, it went overnight so finished 17th of May.
It was commemorated with a lancaster flight over Derwent Reservoir, the training 'ground' for the three dams.

There is going to be a remake of the old Dambusters movie, if I'm not mistaken - hopefully it & the movie about the plot against Hitler will revive interest in this genre.

This is the first time i`ve responded to a thread so i will start with a warm hello to you all. As 617 SQN is very close to my heart, i think it is quite fitting that they should be remembered on this site. Whilst famous for the Dams Raid and the Tirpitz sinking, they were also involved in attacks on sub pens at Brest and Lorient towards the end of the war. Not sure if scripted in GWX, but i will stay clear just incase.

Happy Hunting.

They're the RAF's dedicated anti-shipping squadron operating out of (I think) lossiemouth.

Last I heard the No. 617 Squadron operates one of the Panavia Tornado variants out of RAF Lossiemouth, And yeah they are equipped with Sea Eagle missiles for Anti-Shipping purposes

I am very glad that Peter Jackson is directing it. Too often, modern filmmakers covering WWII seem to make the characters 1940's versions of modern-day teenagers. This is especially true WRT their mannerisms & behavior - see Pearl Harbor for a good example of this. I suspect Jackson will be much better at capturing the character of Guy Gibson & his mates.

I suspect that they will change his name to something more PC to avoid controversy. If they don't then the NAACP & similar groups will start hounding them (no pun intended).

 It's only a contraction of the latin for black, what else would an educated man call a black dog?
I'm intrigued at how they'll portray Gibson, having read his autobiography, whilst he's obviously a great hero, he's never ever going to sound PC because nobody was then.
I'm afraid I can't share the same faith in Peter Jackson his name is shouting Playstation graphics at me.

I think Jackson is only producing the movie, not directing it.

Do you mean that Gibson never returned from the raid? He was one of the survivors (although he was KIA about a year later IIRC).
