Radar Question!

I click on my radio man and 3 icons show up, but i cant seem to do anything with them. I assume i must be surfaced to use the radar. One icon is 1 sweep, another is continuous sweep and the last icon is radar off. I am using the latest patch and i am not using any mods. I can use the hydrophone/sonar manually once i`m submerged. Any ideas on what might be wrong? Thanks in advance!!

I`m in a Type VII-B sub and i have upgraded from GHG to the KDB system. I`m currently in Dec 24 of 1939. I`m kind of new to this game too.

KDB is actually a type of hydrophone, not radar.

Radar is NOT available until approximately 1942 or 1943. And even then it's not worth using. In clear weather, lookouts can spot ships farther away than radar. In nasty weather, the waves had a terrible effect on its use. Plus, your use of radar will give you away to your enemies. The Germans were way behind the British in development of radar.

Radar detection (the Biscay Cross) will be available before radar. This will be worth having! It is a must have!

Radar's just a really bad choice overall, even in the later years. Sure it can help you find other ships/planes; but makes you even easier to spot whenever you've got it on. Your watch crew and sonar do a lot better job of spotting targets/hazards that don't give your position away in the process.

and besides the bloody thing goes off all the time knocking you out of t/c....when in fact the enemy dd or escort hasn't detected you!! its miles away.....i wont be installing it when it becomes available:down:
