Ok, so I play SHIV and have started modding for it as well. Though throughout this entire endevour I had never seen Das Boot.

Today, I decided to go out to Blockbuster and rent it. Sadly they only had the Directors Cut (I wanted the un-**** version)

I popped it in, ran the movie in German with English subs. (Though I can speak a fair amount of German, and got alot of the asides they didn't dub; as well as getting past alot of the 'lost in translation' errors.)

I was utterly stunned. This is one amazing movie. Not only in length but also in content. I want to get all of my buddies to watch it, though being a tad over 3 hours I'll have trouble conviencing some.

It really shows the struggles of the Kriegsmarine and their sailors in the Atlantic as well as the views of the sailors in regards to political situation.

An amazing movie.

Glad to hear you enjoyed it :) Das Boot really is the measure against which all other sub movies are compared, and none have come close yet. I even managed to convince my girlfriend to buy the uncut version

If you want to see some of the stuff they used in the shoots you have to go to the Bavaria Filmstadt in Munich. There you can walk through the engineroom, see the conning tower and one of the models they used for surface shots (or was it the model for the submerged scenes??? I can't remember have been there in 1996).:D

An amazing movie.

Right up there with the Ten Commandments, Run Silent - Run Deep, Radio Days, The Enemy Below, The Day After, At Dawn We Dive, Saving Private Ryan, and ... Hunt for Red October.
