It does dive really slow and will not dive to 160m at 1/3 power. The VIIB did dive really good and down to 160m and stayed there at 1/3 power. IBX dives good to but the VIIC will not dive to the depth I make it, if I say dive to 80m it will dive to 60m then go back up to 20m or so and stay there at 1/3 power. If I power up 2/3's then it will stay at 80m but if I power down to 1/3 it goes back up to 20m or so, that's strange. Is this a problem with GWX 2.1 or is this something strange with my setup...? Thank you for any info. Sorry.....I mean GWX 2.1

Do you mean GWX 2.1?
GWX 1.02 was released over a year ago and is no longer supported
by the GWX Team.

If it's like all his other threads where he refers to 1.2, then yes, he means 2.1. ;)

Hello,
don't know yet, i am at the beginning of a campaign - perhaps i should make some test dives. The diving depths have been changed since the first releases of GWX, and i guess this is written down in the manual (?).

Anyway in reality almost every early german U-boat of WW2 should be able to dive to 160 meters without any problem, but it should be really able to reach much more. Wharf guarantee was 100 meters at the beginning of the war, but as a thumb rule this depth was always referred to as "plus A", where "A" was 80 ("Achtzig" in german) meters. This 180 meters (around 540 feet) was not the calculated crush depth, but a thumb rule where you could go without problems in a VIIB. U-boat hulls were made of special hardened and tempered steel alloys, of which Germany was technologically leading at this time.

So every boat should be able to reach 180 meters without problem. Some of the early VIIB boats were down to 240 meters without experiencing problems. The thicker hulls of the later VIICs were also good for 240 meters, whereas wharf guarantee was 160 by then, and one went (unwanted) down to almost 300 before the crew realized the depth gauge was blocked. This depth indeed caused problems for the boat because one of the propshafts was pressed so badly out of alignment by the pressure that it would produce noise and heat later on the patrol.
This b.t.w. was the boat of Klt. Tiesenhausen that sank the battleship "Barham", and this dive happened right after it when evading destroyers.

This should be reflected in the GWX mod, and i think it is. I just do not know whether a given random number of crush depth is applied to a boat generally (for its lifetime in the sim), or if it is set anew for every patrol ?

Thanks and greetings,
Catfish

Sorry for all my mistakes everyone. It was one of those really long days that day. Yes I mean GWX 2.1 and it will dive to 160m but it only does if I go 100% power, to stay at 160m I must keep that power setting running full out. If I back off the power to 2/3's it will go up to 60 or 40m and stay there at 2/3 power. If I slow down to 1/3 power it will go up to 15 or 20m and stay there.
The IIA/VIIB and IXB do not have this problem for me. It could just be me and some kind of install problem I have, not sure. Thank you for the replies. :)
