I just thought I would try naval combat game as I play mostly land battles (HPS SIMS). Game graphics are great, but I have this crash freeze issue. I have read through many threads about this, but can,t seem to find fix. I have done all the defrag stuff b4 install and after each install (game DVD and patch 1.4. I have a lower end system AMD X4200+, 2gig Muskin DDR ram, Asus A8NSLI MB and evga 8800GT. I have evga drivers installed. Game game graphics settings medium. I have Nvidia onboard sound nforce 4.56 drivers. Have AMD cpu tweak installed as well, Dx is upto speed w March/08 update. Temp monitoring shows cpu running around 50C and GPU around 53C. I have also tried turning master sound off, still freeze or CTD. Failure appears random, or I can't detect pattern. I thought it was related to Camera view maybe? Crashes have been occurring in the Midway Quick mission. Got through Sub School fine. Have not tried any other missions.
DVD game disc has this Game Shadow install option what is this? I did not install is this an issue?
I am coming up on my fourth install and if this doesn't work I will probably be giving on up ubisoft sub sims. Disappointing how may bugs in this game. Help please.

Some of your specs above, I'm not that familiar with, but it sounds like you have enough to run the game pretty well. I can tell you "Gameshadow" is not the problem. This is a program that reads what games you have installed and informs you of what updates or patches are available for your installations. Also, I have heard of issues with SLI configurations. You may want to search the threads for this (SLI) kind of info. Wish I could be more helpfull. Hang in there, the game is well worth it. I'm sure someone more familiar with your setup will pipe in here with some better advice. DON'T GIVE UP! You'll be glad you didn't and there are many people here that are more than willing to help you. Just be a little patient:yep: . AND....BTW Welcome to Subsim!

Thanks for the words of encouragement Soundman. I have an Asus motherboard that can run 2 GPUs but I have only one as a second card only improves graphics response about 5%. I have seen some issues described in some of the threads regarding Nvidia 8000 series cards. I have a 7900GTX that I could try, but I bought the new card and would like to use it. I also played some heavy duty RPGs oblivion and the Witcher and had no issues after I did the AMD cpu driver tweak. My CPU is on the light side but it does not seem to over heat. I could go up to 4 gig of ram which would improve my FSB speed to 533 mb, but I am not sure if I am wasting money. BTW I did my fourth clean install and it crashed in Midway quick mission again. It seems to happen most often in camera mode when there is a lot of activity in the game.
Nickel12,
Did you try installing Directx9 from the install DVD. I have heard of people
having problems if they did not install Directx9 from the disk, but when they
installed Directx9 from the disk the problems when away.

JREX53,
Did you mean to reinstall after I have already installed initially?
I think he means did you have the game install DX9 when the game installed. Sometimes, games being the way they are, you need to install DX9 when the game asks you if you want to even though you may already have DX 9 installed previously.

Got it running. I set all my graphics control settings to application controlled including no gamma control or vertical sync. This may help some of you that are having issues with Nvidia 8000 series cards. I am running nTune BTW. Graphics still look good but the card is no longer forcing the game code or so it appears.

Glad to hear you got it sorted. I'm running an AMD 4 (2.4Ghz) with 2Gig RAM and an nVidia 7800 (256M) AGP card and the game runs fine. I couldn't see how yours wouldn't work. Personally, I always let the application do the "controlling" but you make a good point, there's a lot of threads about "tweaking" the graphics settings which could do more harm than good depending on your system.
BTW you mentioned "on board" sound? You might want to get a seperate soundcard (i.e. Soundblaster etc) as that's one less thing your Mobo has to take care of so to speak.

I got a Sound Blaster card and am going to put it in this weekend. I am back to occasional crashes. I am tempted to go back to my 7900GTX gpu card when I add the sound card. I did see that my 8800GT SC gpu was not on the supported list. The list does not include my 7900 card either. I seem to be having a frame rate issue. I could go up on ram to increase my FSB speed, but I have the voltage cranked up on my cpu and am a little concerned that if I increase FSB bandwith I will make my cpu run too hot. It runs at around 50-55C with the game running. Tomoose, what kind of mobo are you running?
