GWX 1.2 1939 is this really that easy..?

Not sure but maybe there's something wrong with my install. Everything is running ok but i'm in 1939 and I can sink anything that goes by with out a problem. Destroyers go right by me and gun boats just run around me and speed off....strange, nobody will attack. If I fire a shot at them they do then attack but be for that it's like we are not at war. Is there something wrong with my install..? thanks for any info.:roll:

GWX 2.1 lets you start in August 1939 if you want to. The war doesn't start until September.:yep:

You'll get radio messages telling you to attack Polish traffic on September 1, and British and French on September 3. Until GWX 2.1 the start date was always September 1. The August start date mainly lets you be one of the boats that was sent out to be on station when the war began, so you don't have to cross the Evil Channel during wartime.:sunny:

Recently I had got out on patrol into the Chops of the Channel on that fateful Sunday morning and had spotted an R.N. armed auxiliary cruiser at about 7 a.m., which vessel I was dogging until the kick-off at 11 o'clock when I planned to slot a couple of eels into her.

So there I was, waiting for the whistle to blow, when suddenly I was lit up by the cruiser's searchlights and got stonked good and proper. That was at about 8 a.m., September 3rd 1939. And as I and my doughty crew plummeted to Davy Jones's locker, I yelled out: "Fight fair, Englische Schweinehünde!"

Well, that's a game limitation. The war starts in SH3 at 12am on 3 September 1939. There's no hour precision.

But I can beat that. There I was, minding my own business quietly watching a convoy pass on 2 September 1939 when BLAM! an Escort came out of nowhere and sunk me. I didn't even *make* it to WWII. :-? And my God that Escort was good. He had super powers considering the date.

I dunno why this occurred, but I decided at that point that from then on I would lay low from 1 September 1939 just in case...

I didn't get a chance to confirm with 100% accuracy, but that thought did enter my mind. However, what I did confirm was that *all* the escorts (about four or five IIRC) did not like me, so I dismissed the Poland theory because I found it unlikely that a convoy would consist solely of Polish escorts, especially four/five, and especially on 2 Sep 1939. Such a scenario would suggest "bug" to me. ;)

It all boils down to: War is hell.
No one particpating in it likes it. The brief respite we get from war in GWX2.1 is a magic period we can visit any port and feel free. Once the war begins things change.

I challenge every single kaleun in SH3/GWX to start in Aug 39 and describe the experience between peace and war.

The great unwashed cannot get within sniffing distance of Red Square on Victory Day. Only Russian and foreign dignitaries and veterans selected from all over the Russian Federation and former member states of the Soviet Union are allowed there to watch the parade.

My house is about a mile and a half south east of the Kremlin, so the Russian Air Force Victory Day flyover roars at roof top level over my place of exile, much to the delight of my two children. And, of course, we all watched the enormously impressive salyut (fireworks display) from our balcony at 10 p.m. These displays fire off all over the city at that time, lasting about 15 minutes, the huge red, green, blue and white chrysanthemum pyrotechnics constantly accompanied by hoarse cries of "Urra!" from those still on the streets at that time and who are not already comatose as a result of over indulgence.

It comes from the Sevmash (Severnye mashiny - Northern Machinery) shipyard site, which Arkhangelsk submarine building company restored the sub and floated it down to Moscow on a pontoon along rivers and canals from the far north of European Russia.
