A few questions about patrol assignments
Do you:
- always patrol the grid you've been ordered to?
- if so, do you stay there only for the requered 24 hours or longer?
How did those assignmenst work in RL?
Were they ordered one single grid for their entire patrol (wich doesnt seem likely to me). And how much leaway did the individual skippers have to determine where they'd go.

lo bulleye
personaly i do head for my patrol grid and then patrol it for 24hrs.....thats not to say i dont get sidetracked along the way by any contacts i encounter.
if youre using gwx2.1...then the renown you used to get for patrolling your given sector has been removed.
i kinda like the patrol grid...as it gives me initial purpose and general area to head for....
as for r/l
well i think commanders were given orders like these...but were updated quite a lot over a patrol. depending on the kind of mission.... a commmander might stay away from enemy shipping , as remaining undetected was more important than tonnage. reports from bdu would update continually when on patrol...giving new areas of operation and even orders to meet other boats that had damage problems and supply shortages.
Unless I've got a specific target in mind, or know that a certain ship is going to be docked at x harbor during the month of that patrol its a nice way to start out. Sometimes you get lucky and run into a convoy of a few ships to your patrol area. After that it all depends on how much fuel you got left, or if there's a supply ship around that you could extend the range of your patrol. SHC is a godsend in respect to patrol areas, being assigned to an area in the British chanel or around Sicily is suicide. Its great to be able to either randomly change or assign yourself a patrol grid to something potentially productive rather than something that leads to a pine box.
