Still time to cancel your book you know. ;)
These days I have more phone-spam than email-spam, it's way more annoying but that sh!t is legal :damn:
We have that problem here, call centres ringing you up about this and that. Most of them are now outside the UK and you get some Indian calling you with a East end accent 20 to 50 times a day. Fortunately we got the TPS Telephone Preference Service which tells this lot we don't want there calls, since joining we only get the odd one here and there.

That threat will only work so many times. Then one day Jimbuna will post a link to a news article: "Local man found dead with copy of book shoved down throat! Authorities baffled; suspect government conspiracy."

" but a recent survey conducted by Sophos revealed that 11 per cent of people admit to having bought goods in response to spam messages."
And this ladies and gentlemen is the problem. Considering that sending E-mail spam, when compared to other advertising venues is practically cost-less, having an 11 percent response rate makes spam a most viable venue indeed.
The solution is in the hands of the people, not the government. Clearly 11 percent seemed accept spam as an acceptable form of advertisement. All it would take to remove spam would be a commitment by the people not to buy anything from spam adverts.
Myself, I am so anti-spam that if I ever got a piece of spam advertising the exact product I was looking for at the best price I still would not buy from the advertiser. I will gladly pay more money for the same product if it did not rely on spam adverts.
I would love to find the corporate address of the advertisers and send them a letter "I was considering buying from your company as you were selling exactly what I was looking for. Unfortunately, since you choose to use spam, I brought from your competitor."
On one of my E-mail accounts I get about 70 E-mails a day (only a few people have my address). Of those 70, perhaps 2 are legit.
I wish I could tell these advertisers that I am not looking for a second mortgage in order to finance my penis enhancement so I can watch porn of underage girls and farm animals. :nope:

I get like... 70 spam mails in ONE e-mail account asking if I want penis enchancement or embroidered logos. I get really annoyed and felt like e-mailing every one of 'em and say "I'M A GIRL!!" but that would probably only get me more spams...
I love Monty Python's stuff :rotfl::rotfl:

I got one offering "Breast Enlargement" !!! and I'm a GUY !!!
I was FIGHTING the urge to send them back a picture of me with boobs photoshopped on complaining about what their product did to me ! :rotfl:
Unfortunately, if you answer just ONE of those spams, even if you're just screwing with them, it causes them to confirm that it's an active email address so your address ends up getting farmed out to 1000000000000000000 other spammers who pay big bucks to get their hands on active email addresses. :nope:

Not just them - spam would cease if spam-friendly ISP's were completely walled off from the rest of the internet.
AGIS thought they were too big a backbone provider for that to happen. Anyone here know who they were? No. Know why? They went belly-up because of private blacklists on ISP's that didn't want to connect to AGIS. Eventually, all "honest" customers left AGIS, and they were left with nothing but spammers that they would allow to set up their websites, as long a they spammed from some other ISP.
On spamhaus.org, you'll find a huge list of ISP's that contribute to the problem. They get paid to "look the other way". Do a google search on Rizler Corporation - uu.net ignored every single spam complaint concerning this criminal (Chris Rizler, aka Chris Smith). What's needed is enforcement of AUP's, and blacklisting of ISP's that fail to enforce them. Until that happens, spam will always continue to be a problem.
BTW, Bill Gates is partly to blame. All those zombied DSL/Cable-connected PC's use his operating system that allows itself to be controled into spam sewers.
I could go on, but that's enough, I think. :)
