playing gwx 2.1 and had 10 days constant rain with poor visibility just west of Gibraltar straight. its mid october 1939. has anyone else experienced this or is it just me?
no. its not just you.
duck down and start listening on your hydro's.
you are in a busy area, you'll have to be patient
something will come along.
i was in that spot 'not so long ago.' i cruised towards Gib not getting anything when all of a sudden out of the rain came trouble - two destroyers. i was lucky i was travelling slow and got down out of the way. they found me later though, when my patience ran out!! then....:dead:

The erratic weather is one of the things that hasn't been completely resolved in SH3 I'm afraid http://www.psionguild.org/forums/images/smilies/wolfsmilies/pirate.gif

10 days?!?! Thats nothing, i've had patrols with over 2weeks of heavy rain and fog:doh: . That sort of weather really puts a crimp on your hunting abilities.

Aye, Cap'n Hornblower!
What about the Real Weather Fix Mod the GWX 2.1 incorporates?
I think it favours longer periods with relatively calm weather...:hmm:

well one fact remains... weather had a huge operational impact on u-boats. Though the SH3 weather issue could be debated to no end, i think GWX 2.1 has it about as figured out as it is going to get short of a release of the SDK from ubi.
it used to be that it would start raining about 2 days out of port... and it wouldnt stop. period. Seriously... i had one patrol where it rained for 45 straight days. and even though i had a number of sound contacts i could never get a visual or formulate an attack.
and the winter months - dont even get me started... if you had a patrol in November or December or January... forget it you might as well cruise around port for a day and then end the mission.
with GWX 2.1 though i get what i would consider a "fair" mix of weather. and it changes frequently.
i know its frustrating... but sometimes you just have to submerge and break out a board game with the officers and crew and listen in frustration while large tankers sail by in the raging storm.
I am now in my third patrol, since installing GWX 2.1. It's now October and I have to say that the weather changes frequently. In my last patrol, I have had several days of rain, some days with high winds, some with fog and also a lot of days with relatively calm weather with good visibility. Also, the weather changes during the day. It was actually beautiful to have a day start out nice and quiet, then seeing the swell increasing and ending in a storm.
In stock SHIII, weather wouldn't change for the duration of your patrol. If it stormed, it stormed for a month! So GWX 2.1 has really altered the weather to the extent where it is much more realistic!
I think the worst weather that I've experienced since installing GWX was when I decided to start a career in Dec '41 & take my IXB "across the pond" to US shores. The whole trip across the Altantic was great, clear skies & smooth sailing. When I got there though everything went "to hell in a hand basket". From Christmas Day until Jan. 2nd '42 the weather was just awful; one long, unending storm. By the time it finally cleared up enough to do any hunting I was getting low on diesel (not familiar with the resupply feature yet) & I was only able to bag a Large Merchant & a little Pelagic Trawler. Let's just say that I don't think BdU was too impressed with my efforts....

Yes, constant rain can be rather annoying, but remeber that this can work to your advantage. Especially in an area that is full of navy/air patrols. I've lost count of the amount of times that this sort of weather has saved me from being sunk.
