View Full Version : what's wrong with the odd necro thread?

I thought that one below about the singer from Das Boot was interesting, and i'd never have read it otherwise.
What's so evil about resurrecting the occasional thread? Does interesting information have a very short sell-by date or something? Is it in some way invalid because it was written some time ago?
It would have drifted down back into the ether on its own in a day or two.
Nothing wrong in reading old threads but have you something new to add? If so by all means knock yourself out. Any how we believe in democracy here. ;) :shifty:
I'm with you on this one Joe. It's better to resurrect an old thread than to start a brand new one on the same topic. I also don't see what the fuss is about.
Some threads are worth resurrecting, others become stale. For a while we had a rash of old polls that simply littered the forum and reduced the life span of interesting, current threads.

The simple answer as far as polls goes would be for a mod to close that part of the thread.
You'll often see a new forun member post on an old thread.....that's all well and good provided what's added is of interest to the community.
I have no problem with old threads being resurrected, as long as someone has something else to say than "BUMP!!!" it doesnt bother me. ;)
Bump.

I totally agree with this statement.
About the closed thread you are mentioning:
1: The thread has fulfilled its mission as far as it could.
2: The thread is from 2006
When the thread was resurrected at post #12, the poster commented about the singer beeing or not beeing a porn star.. That has, IMHO, nothing to do with the original topic of the thread, and is not a reason to bring this back to life, since it has no relevance. (Just my 2 cents):yep::up:

It only bothers me when the new poster replies as though the previous post was made yesterday, and I read through the thing avidly planning my own reply, only to stumble on a post I did make...two years ago!
Didn't happen this time, but I suppose it could be even worse: I could make a reply and then find out I already had.:rotfl:
