Hello everybody :sunny:

I've recently got myself a copy of Operation Flashpoint (it's got the Red Hammer and Resistence expansions according to the box).
I still cannot get my first mission (the stealing of the UAZ... or is it UAV?) complete. I have run to the spot where I was supposed to steal the vehicle with the Russian documents but I see nothing. Ran around the spot, still see nothing. I've retried the mission nearly ten times.

I asked Oberon for help last night on MSN, he still finds it odd. So I thought I might ask here and see if anybody knows what to do. (I did check the map and I had that guiding arrow option on).

Hope I've got this in the right place

Hi, first of all: congratulations. You bought a nice game which still has a very active community.
I believe you bought Ofp because you had Armed Assault first, so you are fimiliar with the controls and so on.

Now to the "Steal the car" mission; the only time I played this one was after I had bought Ofp right after it was released (7 years ago :D).
When I remember correctly you get a waypoint (yellow box which says something like "Steal car") right from the start of the mission which is placed in the middle of the town. The waypoint does not show you the exact location of the car; I think it has a placement radius; that means the car is in a different position everytime you start the mission.
My advice is to restart the mission and search for the car.

Yup, just crawl around the village until you find the car. It won't be near the waypoint (That would be too easy ;) )

I like this mission, it's a good sandbox for solo infantry tactics. Also, it always reminds me of the first time I played OFP :)
I usually find the car by the officers tent, behind the trees.

@ Janus: I didn't get Armed Assault ;) Never heard of it  But I did get adjusted to the controls pretty well... the basic controls :D (I did nearly buy S.W.A.T but I preferred army games :D)

Ah, thanks everybody  I shall give it a bash in a couple of mins :hmm: Will edit once I've accomplished it :sunny:

The first time I played Ofp was when the demo was released. It was the mission which later was in the game as the mission "Ambush". I played it hundreds of times; it is a classic

By far my favourite single mission is bomberman:rock:

Gave it a bash today, no luck yet since I'm always getting shot from behind (I do scan my area before I move out of hiding). Some attempts I did get a good look around the waypoint until I got shot  But I'll get there eventually :yep:

You think that mission is tough, just wait `till your dumped in the woods with no squad to support you and enemy forces everywhere, i swear by the time i finished that mission i was starting to go bald with stress, massively satisfying when i finally managed it though.

 I would certainly go mad once I get to that mission

In the American mission (the campaign game part) I knocked over a jeep when I was driving, and the soldier in it flew out. He landed on his feet! :rotfl:

I don't like those kind of missions. I like "regular" infantry missions more.

Geno_Mariner: the Ofp physics are a bit "special" ;)
But after years you get used to it

Is that the jeep mission? The jeep is always in the same spot, gaurded by 2 baddies. Sneak up to a building, then snipe a few of them, move up, do the same. Keep changing position. Keeps you from getting shot.

Yeah, the UAZ mission. I'm yet to find the darned thing  Maybe I'm sort of doing the mission wrong :damn:

ARMA 2 is going to come out eventually. I kinda missed Arma but now that I have a C2D and an 8800GT, things are going to change!!!!!!!!

Look at some of the addon stuff for OFP, oh and resistance, get resistance, the dynamic elements for the campaign are just awsome. I had my full squad in all russian kit by about the 3rd or 4th mission just from scavenging weapons. For some reason though OFP dosn't like my new computer, and it only recognizes up to 2gb of ram.

I've got the 'Red Hammer' Soviet Campaign and Resistance expansion, it came with the game when I bought it

I've lost the link to the mod Oberon gave me over MSN :damn: I forgot what mod it was...

The Red Hammer expansion and campgaign is kind of dull, in most of the missions you are alone and have to fight superior numbers of enemies :88)
I definitely find the russian accent voices annoying that came with the Red Hammer addon.

I still play OFP regularly. If you finish the campaign, try the FDF mod, or FFUR!
I've had countless hours of fun playing it coop.

Armed Assault was a bit of a disappointment for me tho.
But recently the modding community made it quite interesting aswell. Been playing it coop for some weeks now. Love to use those guided bombs on the Harrier and fly some CAS missions. :arrgh!:

FFUR, that's the mod I forgot about! What does the mod do?

it changes a whole BUNCH of stuff. IIRC the latest version is madness. The wounding is much more realisitic, you can be immobalized and have to get draged back to cover, if not you will die. You also can bury the dead, the weapons are changed to be more realistic (better 3d models and so on) and the ammo is changed so that there is realistic comonality (so say an M-4 and an M-16 will use the same NATO 30rd 5.56mm mag). I think it also has artillery and so on. What I would really really love to see is some good WW2 weapons into OFP, all this talk of it I think I am going to reload it, I never got around to it after this last format.

There is the Invasion 44 stuff (released 1 year ago or so in a "as is" state), the mod has nice British Airborne soldiers, Wehrmacht, Waffen SS and American airborne.
Then there is the Liberation 41 mod which is focused on the east front and has russian troops.
Last but not least there is the WW2 pack of the FDF mod which has nice finnish stuff and russian equipment, too.

Those are the 3 most important WW2 mods for Ofp.

Those mods were some good stuff. Unfortunantly, their isn't much you can do with an engine more than 7 years old (10 if you count total time in development) and wasn't designed with modding in mind. :)

No Name was a bit of a disappointment for me tho.

You mean, "The Game Which Shall not be Named". Someone should tell Bohemia that after the trend setting OFP games, we, ya know, might expect a little MORE, in terms of gameplay? Too bad TGWSNBN was a giant step BACKWARDS for the series. Maybe Codemasters won't mess up? :)
