I was wondering if there is any other TF2 players here on SubSim.

I've had it since day one, and (except some pauses of a week or so) have been playing it since start. Absolutely love it.

I think the unique voices for every class is a stroke of genious. I still have a hard time to decide which one I like the best. Ironically, it could be the pyro, although we don't hear what he (she?) says, it's so damn fun to listen to it. But one of the best things I can hear when playing is:

I use to play this lasted about a month found the game to fast, yet that's weird as i still load up Quake 3 now and then and that's faster game play, More what did it for me was TF servers put me off the only ones that were populated were the non english ones. If i only knew how to read spanish!

UKCS consist of mostly people from UK, it's all english text etc. And almost always near full/full with players. I suggest you check those out. Bit of warning though, the players are very very good, but sometimes they decide to just fool around, like last night, when I suggested that we, the RED team on Dustbowl, would go spy and disguise ourselves as RED scouts. And they all did it! Bwahhha, it was a feat for the eyes:har::har::haha:

I know that feeling, thankfully the 12 year olds, although they're fast and agile with Neo-like reflexes, are usually quite dumb and often fall into traps and sentries quite easily ;)
Quite how some people have a sixth sense with spies even though you've gone nowhere near them, have picked the right person to disguise as (demoman or soldier) and even run in the right direction, is quite annoying though, so I rarely play as a spy. Engie, Heavy or Scout is my favourite.
Sometimes I just throw caution to the wind and run straight through their front lines and run around like an idiot behind their lines. Sometimes, just sometimes it causes enough disorder whilst they try to hunt me down that someone else can take the opportunity to launch a breakthrough.

I remember when Team Fortress teams were actually organized in their tactics, actually making battle plans and executing them. Now, with the influx of the Neo like 12 year olds, all that is out the window. There's no more "Laying down cover fire for helping someone get through" or fire teams working together as they go into the enemy base. Now, everyone just runs for the other base regardless of all the teammates and that's it. I think the abandonment of team based tactics is one of the major things that killed it for me. Heck. I mean.. hardly ANYONE stays behind and defends anymore.

I just bought this game last night, as the Orange Box is on sale this weekend for $10 and I never played Half-Life 2 or any of the other games that come with it.

It seems like a lot of fun, I am no stranger to class-based team games so I got into it quickly but I seem to get wiped out pretty easily in combat. Do you guys have any tips for staying alive and racking up kills? I seem to do best as spy, sneaking around is fun and I love backstabbing camping snipers. Maybe I will just stick to that.

Well we have our own group called Subsim TF2ers and we have 5 members so far myself included.

Good thing to remember is that now that the game has been released for over a year, it'll be ALOT of good players out there. Elite Snipers are not that uncommon, so I suggest, if you know where a sniper is, don't stick out yer' head too much. Also some classes are much much better on some maps. the Scout shouldn't be used on Dustbowl, for example.

It wasn't really any particular map, I was getting blown away in all of them. I guess the cartoony style fools me into thinking that the characters are stronger than they really are. It requires a lot more tactical consideration.

Here, read up a bit on tf2wiki.net . Good information up there, but one of the most important things is finding a good server. A lot of the 32 player, insta-spawn ones are filled with arses and not very fun for a beginner.

I love the UKCS servers, although the players are generally pretty good, so might not a good start for beginners:P

Finding a good server was the trick I think. I find 32 players chaotic and found a nice 24 player one with no whining children on the VOIP. They were a friendly bunch and after a little while I was landing in the top 3 for my team. Great fun!

I got a question reguading all of the findable new weapons in TF2, how do you get them!!!???? Do you have to have regular points or can a noob just get something like the huntsman?

Indeed, I was lucky enough to get the Cloak and Dagger on the first day, and today I got the Jarate (:har:).

The Cloak and Dagger makes the Spy really quite fun to play as. You can actually take your time moving into position whilst cloaked. Of course, I keep forgetting to drop cloak to attack, which is very embarrasing. But my Spy Success rate has tripled since I got the Cloak and Dagger.

I played the game for the first time yesterday, and while it took me about 40-50 minutes to get somewhat adjusted to it then I can for sure see the fun factor in this game.
I usually play more 'serious' games and this is a good title to weighten the scale a little bit.

Also I was lucky enough to purchase it from Steam during the 'Trick or treat' Halloween offer, so I got it for a mere 2,5 Euro, which if course is a steal beyond dimension.

I will for sure spend some more time on this game.

Yeah I know, I was planning to hold of buying games for a while since I usually do not purchase them very often and quite selective as well, but I got ARMA II for the 50% discount and the 75% of STALKER was also to good not to jump on.

I have had an eye on TF2 because my cousin playes it and have told me about it, but since I in addition to the above mentioned also will get L4D2 then I was waiting for a weekend discount so I could get TF2 for about 7.5 Euro instead of 15 (which of course also is a fair price by all means), but I was VERY surprised to see it for only 2.5 Euro as it is basically free.

For the record I have only been using Steam since June as I have now moved from my old system over to my cousins 2nd system, which I borrow until I buy my own new one towards spring, just in time for SH-V as well I guess :D

Didn't see this one happening, TF2 is now a free to play game on steam.

Guess valves cash cow stopped giving milk, and they figured that they would make more money with new people through the store.

Good plan. Actually I'm genuinely surprised - it's still a game I'd pay money for. No competitive MP game has kept my interest for as long as TF2 has, and IMO when it comes to team-based FPS multiplayer like this, TF2 blows every other game out there out of the water. Hope this means more people join up.

Just downloaded it this morning, that'll be the ninth free (four ps3, four from dixonsdownloads, and this from Steam!) game so far this year (not including Frozen Synapse - cheers seaniam81 :yeah:), just wondering when I'll get a moment to start to play any of them with gusto? :doh:

I'm very sad to see that the TF2 community isn't better than a bunch of egocentric lunatics. I see threads popping up with people seriously wanting devices to perm. ban any player who got the game now when it's free. And even more who wants "their money back". Geee, I got the game 4 years ago, when it was released, and I've had 400+ hours of great fun during that time with the game. I see no reason what so ever to why I should rightfully demand to have my money back. And I see no reason why anyone else would either. It would be one thing if valve actually had said "This game will never be free to play", but I doubt they've ever said such a thing, so there's nothing stopping them from doing this.

Point is, it's still a great game, and we're all new at some point. But the way the pre-F2P crowd behaves just makes me sick:nope:
