WOW!!!

having played stock sh3 for a year...before gwx ...(thank you lord!)....i liked nothing more than playing a

little cat an' mouse with any aircraft that dared buzz me in my endeavours to sink my enemy's

shipping........cut to a couple o' years later with gwx2.0 and i thought...against Kpt Lehmann ,

jimbuna's.....etc advice....(and the manual!!!!)...id stay on surface and go toe to toe with my brand new

type IXb.....with extra firepower up top.....


well i turned toward my attacker with the same kind of foolhardy bravery that got me by in the good old days!!!

yeah with GWX I only take on planes if i am in my Type II/D with the upgraded conning tower. Seems the planes have trouble hitting the little boat. :arrgh!:

be careful... watch crew and gun crews are abotu a million times more vulnerable to gunfire too... start taking machine gun fire and you might see deck gun crews getting mowed down like when the higgins boat doors open up on saving private ryan.

Fighting aircraft is really a last resort. Basically if you can submerge in time to 50 or 60m then just dive.

Flak guns come in handy to help fend off air cover to give you chance to dive but prolonged battles of a sub against a plane, the sub never fared well.

yea penelope....ive learned my lesson:rotfl: just had to see what i was up against!!! i knew gwx was much more realistic...ive been using it for ages...but when i saw that bomb make a direct hit first time...well.....i now know how mutch of an improvement you guys at the gwx team have made.

there has been mutch thanks directed to the dev team here recently...and im not saying anything that hasnt been said before but.

i logged on to this forum after i paid for an add-on i saw in some store...med pack i think...and asked if there were any others available.......one kaleun promptly opened my eyes to another world!!!

gwx, nygm etc were available and i never looked back....gwx being the one for me.

the help and support for a newb was outstanding and non judgemental in every way.

can i take this opertunity to say a massive thanks to Kpt lehmann and his team for the outstanding work and dedication over the last years and for making a game with a lifespan of a year at most in my eayes into the only game ive ever played for over 3 years.

to all the modders and dev guys who have made this game give me a sore neck, back and eyes...a massive thank you!!!

and to all the help from fellow kaleuns who have put up with my daft questions....my respect to you all:rock:

ahh the good old days... i rmemeber rolling my eyes as i read my stats which claimed more air kills than Richard Ira Bong! :nope:

Just go to u-boat.net and read about all the great success the u-boats had against aircraft.

must have been a kill ratio of about 1:500 in the favor of the airplane.

Sometimes when trying to sneak into Scapa Flow from the West I'll catch patrol craft about 100-150km from the inlet. With a PO officer with Flak skill you stand a chance to fend off attacks from 1, 2 planes at the max. Most effective way I've found so far is to reduce speed and once the aircraft get into attacking range slam it into flank. As long as they're attacking from Port or Starboard this'll usually cause em to miss your people but still hit the aft portion of the sub. Then once it passess over make sure the gunner mows it down before it gets a second turn. Once you down one plane, more will always follow (unless you're way out at sea) giving you more than ample time to dive and change course. 9 times out of 10 planes will follow your bearing waiting for you to pop back up and come at you again :dead:

Hello captain`s!

Well, the bees are quite dangerous in GWX. I prefer to dive to survive
instead to engage them. In my actual career with an IXC I tried just
one time to shoot down a plane - a single Catalina.
Result: Two men dead, Boat down to 60 % plane still alive :lost:

As divingtime with the IXC is a bit long I couldn` escape completely
the bees and was hit sometimes while doiving.

Now I am a proud owner of an radar-warner and as the airplane arrives
I am already at 40m :up:

BTW: regarding my lecture of many books from WWII U-Boat-men
GWX planes are working quite realistic...
