View Full Version : Rammed ships don't count?

I rammed and sunk 3 ships, a fishing boat, and unarmed trawler, and a liberty cargo ship. But the log did NOT count the kill. Any comments?

Ok, Ok, The liberty cargo ship already have taken one torp and listing. I gently bump my boat against her and she sunk. I can hear my men cheer:arrgh!:, (they also cheer when I ram the other two boats). But the log didn' record a any of these three sinkings. Not that the tonnage is huge.

Is this by design?

Yep, ramming does not count. IRL they didn't ram, that would be too dangerous.

Where did you end your patrol?
If you exited the patrol within 20Km of your homebase, your sinks wont count on the patrol log.

Its a bug that cannot be fixed.

This is news to me, so If i'm within 20 km of base I've got to sail all the way in? How close to base do I have to be? in the pen, by the dock? I never really count scores so I don't know if I'm missing out or not.

I've ended out at sea sometimes and always got my tonnage.

All the rammings of small ships are in English/Irish waters, the Liberty cargo is off the coast of spain, So I am quite sure the location is beyond 20m of base.

Also I try usually to get back close to base before ending my patrol. More realistic that way. Rarely have a problem with my log though.

Regarding Ramming, it is usually in rough seas where I can't use deck gun. I am ambushing traffic and the fishing boats are messing up with my sonar reading:damn:. In transit I will usually leave them alone.

Haha, you sunk a Liberty cargo by means of ramming? That's quite an achievement!

I don't see how this is related. Because I havn't end the patrol yet. The kill can't be seen like other kills when I access the log "K" key. It just never show up.

I understand in SH3 as well as in the real world there are times when you can't confirm your kill until much later, i.e. HMS Bahram. But in this case, I can clearly confirm the kill visually.

As to ramming being dangerous, I will never ram a liberty cargo ship with a sub if I were an actual skipper of a U-boat. But ramming a 18 ton wooden fishing boat with a 1000 ton type IX wasn't that un-reasonable.

Then again, you would risk damaging the front dive-planes, leaks here and there, and perhaps even a damaged deck-gun or conning-tower!
Remember, the fishing boats weren't all-made of wood

Alright, alright, next time I will fire a starshell warning shot and just demand a few kegs of beer.

Then again, I really have touble naming any good English beers...

No worries, tasting English beers is harder than naming them!

When you come out of custums at Heathrow turn right, then another right, go upstairs and order a pint of bitter. You don't need to know the brand :D nor the hour. The airport pubs are open 24/7.;)

Whether it is a wise idea to ram aside, I still think if you sink a ship by ramming, it should be recorded.

Just as If you sink friendly shipping, it's a big no no, but the event still is recorded nvertheless.

If you ram a friendly ship and it sinks will it count?
'Cause when I was returning to Wilhelmshafen I saw a friendly tug boat and adjusted my course to avoid him and for some reason he turned and I had no time no avoid him n' crashed just right on his bow with 15kts:damn: luckily he survived.

I guess I mean "recorded", not necessarily counted towards tonage.
