View Full Version : Islamic schools turn kids into beggars

Islam at its finest.
...Most of the boys — 90 percent, the study found — are sent out to beg under the cover of Islam, placing the problem at the complicated intersection of greed and tradition. For among the cruelest facts of Coli’s life is that he was not stolen from his family. He was brought to Dakar with their blessing to learn Islam’s holy book.
In the name of religion, Coli spent two hours a day memorizing verses from the Quran and over nine hours begging to pad the pockets of the man he called his teacher.
It was getting dark. Coli had less than half the 72 cents he was told to bring back. He was afraid. He knew what happened to children who failed to meet their daily quotas.
They were stripped and doused in cold water. The older boys picked them up like hammocks by their ankles and wrists. Then the teacher whipped them with an electrical cord until the cord ate their skin.
Coli’s head hurt with hunger. He could already feel the slice of the wire on his back....

Pan handleing is big business here in Oregon. They've made studies of pan handlers, many of them aren't so bad off:shifty: .
But look at he bright side, those kids are learning great life skills...

Every time I log into Subsim I wonder "what utterly crackpot, paranoid, far-right fantasy from the borderworld of veracity is SUBMAN1 going to post this day/hour/minute". I'm never disappointed. Braw, man! ;)
No offence, mate. It's just that you strike me as the kind of person who prefers to store his food in sealed containers underground rather than a big fridge.

I only wish the article was pure fantasy as you say. Too bad it is not.

A little known fact, subman1 has his own underground brewery bunker, that was converted from the leftover MX missle program.:D

I've always wondered about that. I mean, $100 a day probably isn't unrealistic for some. And that ain't bad.

Of course you guys are not actually comparing pan handling here in the states with the terrible life of abuse and slavery that boy in the article had to endure.... right?

I'm not. I was making an off topic response to an off topic comment. The only kind of post I really make outside of my own threads, come to think of it. :arrgh!:

If nothing else it's a relief that you drink beer, rather than purified All-American H2O from a military-spec filtration unit. Ever seen a Commie hold a glass of water, Mandrake?
Just joking.

Just joking. My latest deal - I need to bring a friend over to do my taste test. I have the following 3 beers that are close in flavor, but need to find the differences between them so they need to be tasted at the same time. Problem though - 1.5 (let alone all 3) will tank me till no end. The lowest alc one is 8.7%, and thats BS since it was probably 8.7% at bottling, but getting stronger in the bottle the whole time:
You can't buy this anymore, and it will be what I start with (was 8.7 % abv at one point - probably worse now with age):

Next in line will be the 2007 version of this, which is very rare, and I think I know where at least two bottles are left for sale (10% abv):

http://www.ratebeer.com/beer/double-bastard-ale/11243/
I will finish with this (Still available, but rare and at a premium price - 10.8% abv):

I'll probably do that this weekend if I get a break from working on the house. I may be passed out after this one. :D

The only true test of a beer is not it's strength, but it's popularity on the worldwide stage.
In Holland and Belgium you have the Trappist Beers brewed by monks, and some of those are approaching 20% yet seldom seen that far afield.
For a good brew the world over allow me to introduce the Geordie throat gargler....the one and only..

Oh, hell.
Are the Russians involved?

We had one up in Milton Keynes who used to drive to the town centre, kick off his shoes, sit down to a couple hours' of begging, then knock off and drive home. Got done for it in the end.

:lol:Typical that the world has such bland tastes (Budweizer comes to mind). Maybe I am being too harsh - It is probably more a case of what the world can afford vs. what the world wants. :p
Just picking on you (I couldn't resist!) :D. Newcastle is OK, but lacks a bit of flavor. Tastes like drinking water in a way. It is tolerable though if nothing else is avail.
