Hey Guys , I was just kick'n around the idea of switch'n video cards from nVidia to ATI. My rig's specs are as follows:

AMD 3400xp cpu
2048mb DDR2 PC3200 ram
XFX nVidia 7600gt vidio card ( 8x AGP ) / 256mb DDR3 memory
22" ViewSonic WideScreen HD Monitor ( 2ms ) / connected via. a DVI cable
WindowsXP Pro / service pack 2To tell you the honest truth, I've been somewhat disappointed with my graphics. I play, Falcon 4.0, ChessMaster 9, Silent Hunter III, and the newly released Sudden Strike 3. Falcon 4.0 and Chessmaster 9 are a-ok. SH III still has a few Black triangles flickering across the screen on an rare occasion ( external camera underwater mostly ). GWX 2.1 and using an older video driver has helped, but its not perfect. And it should be ! I have tried every trick in the book, from older drivers, to check'n the DXDiag settings to use'n the recomended setting with nHancer. Like I said it should be near perfect. My new Sudden Strike 3, SUCKS ! I've spent all day check'n the forums for answers and read'n about how great this new game is, even on older rigs, with less hourse power then I have. I know that this is a SH III forum so I don't want to get too deep into Sudden Strike 3 here, OK. What I'm ask'n here is for a few opinions as to what ATI video card works GREAT on SH III, with the above mentioned specs. I'm am advanced computer user and I have come to the conclusion that my current video card is the problem. Its the only thing left. I don't think the XFX 7600gt card is work'n out for me and my exspectations. I don't think it defective just not efective I'm go'n to take the next week or so to research ATI cards and take that info I get and put it together with the suggestions I receive here and make my decision. All suggestions and opionions WELCOME.
Thanx Doolar

Your AA is set too high, thats why you have triangles.

Sometimes, less is more.

Install this:

http://www.nvidia.com/object/winxp_169.21_whql.html

Anisotropic Filtering at 8x (though I actually prefer mine at 4x), and then put your Antialiasing to 4x.

Set it to run on 'Hardware' and not 'OpenGL'.

Problem solved.

I run SH3 on a P4 2.4 Ghz, with 1.5 GB RAM, using an Nvidia 7300 GT... and it looks beautiful.

That should take care of the flickering.
Enjoy.

Ps. I know you're looking for ATI card suggestions... but I thought I'd let you know that little trick first.... because I ditched my ATI 9600 for the Nvidia 7300, and haven't looked back. (ancient computer - bah)

I haven't been lurking around here too long, but Nvidia seems to be the dominant / preferred card brand.
If anything, look at a higher end Nvidia card.

I believe the 8800 GT is the best deal price-wise at the moment...
... but if you are serious about your games, check this out:

It's a pair of Nvidia XFX GeForce 9600 GT's.. a friend of mine just got this and put it in his new machine....

... and I can state without hesitation that it is, in fact, the cat's ass.

Good luck.
