Heres my first kill on GWX 2.1. Only a coastal freighter, so I decided to use my deck gun. So I surfaced wihtin 3000m of her, and gave her crew a nice surprise:arrgh!: .

I decided to start in Sep 39, save me waiting for war to be declared. Also means I can go up the East caost of Brtiain and pick of the numerous lone merchants:arrgh!:
i'm with you papa smurf. i did the august 39 thing. it was horrid. there was so many lone brit merchants sailing around, and i couldnt attack. it was too much for me to take. I had to retire and start in Sept. :damn:

I forgot that I wanted to ask something :damn:
Well, here it is. Are battleships unique? I mean now that I sunk the HMS Hood
will I see her again in the career?

Why is the smoke so bright ?
Because I'm using the GWX-enhanced damage effects mod
a great mod, makes me enjoy watching a target sink

Hm....:hmm: Dito.....but mine is dark and thick.

Yeah on some other ships I sunk the smoke was also dark and thick, usually after an explosion but the Hood didn't make any explosions, it only capsized and sunk

Yes, you will. Anywhere the ship is scripted to appear it will do so. Hood will still show up to meet her fate against Bismarck.
Likewise, if you save Bismarck she will still be listed as sunk after May 1941.

Thanks
maybe that's a good thing because I may get the chance to sink her again
Being a bit bored while studying for my upcoming exams, I reinstalled SH3. The perfect combination... Studying in my bunk while keeping an eye on my screen
So I spent some days downloading the GWX. And just got my first success.
And congrats on how you worked out the damage effects!
Sept '39. Spotted a coastal freighter about 100km east of Aberdeen. Since she seemed already aware of my presence (I was spotted by aircraft a couple hours earlier) I went in with my deck gun. I tried to hit the rudder so I she would be dead in the water but she was maneuvring so violently I aimed for the superstructure instead. Fired 3 HE rounds and the deck was quickly ablaze.
Before I knew it the whole superstructure launched into the air after a series of explosions. A giant stack of smoke filled the sky.
Damn you... I'm hooked again and this won't be positive for my results the coming month. :-?

News just in......
jim is santa..........
My second GWX 2.1 kill, just last night. I was patrolling in AN16, evening approaching with moderate visibility, so I figured I'd dive to listen around. Sure enough, a contact is reported heading SW, long range, slow speed. This thing is just sailing across my bow, crossing my course! That's like asking for it...
I don't get my hopes yet though, might be a small coastal ship...might be neutral...(it's 1939). I calculate an intercept course, which is sort of the course I was already on. Some 10 minutes later: ship spotted!
Imagine my excitement when it's a 10.000 ton merchant! I'm perfectly lined up for a 90 degree shot in the starboard side of her at a range of just under 4000 meters. So I wait on the surface with engines stopped for her to be in the right position. :stare:
Fired my first torp which hits her right under the smokestack. Stops the ship dead in her tracks. But...nothing. She stopped, but nothing happens. Okay, this being the RN's backyard, having seen a destroyer just 2 hours ago, I decide to go for a quick kill and fire a second torpedo. This one hits right under bridge and I can see her getting lower and lower in the water. It's getting dark now, and my watchcrew reports a warship on the horizon. So I decide to get out of the area, slowly. I point the stern towards the approaching destroyer and slip into the darkness when my crew reports the ship is going down!
All in all, not a bad first war patrol. 18.000 tons of shipping to the bottom in a Type IIA :ping:
