Just finished a patrol that started off good and went down the tubes quickly. Sank a couple of ships on the way to the patrol grid, completed the 24 hour tour, then started chasing a convoy west. That's when the trouble started.
Tried not to, but had to save the game while near the convoy, submerged, with a destroyer overhead looking for me. Started the game back up and all of the sudden, there were warships all over the place up top! Couldn't get a look at them, but figured they might be a glitch with the program, ie; duplicate escorts. Strange thing was, they went the opposite direction the convoy was going.
Once the destroyer got bored and left, I surfaced to recharge and repair the conning tower damage from the earlier foggy run in with said destroyer. Weather was medium visibility when the boat surfaced and the 'group of rouge destroyers' was a safe distance away. Started to repair the damage and all of the sudden, I started hearing gunfire and explosions coming from outside! Damage reports abound, and it doesn't dawn on me that we're being attacked by aircraft until I actually see them for myself. So, down we go again. Confused and bruised, repairwork is started and the soundman starts reporting a destroyer closing. Then an other! DEEPER!!!
After these two get bored, I start having a strong feeling that they weren't a glitch in the program from the save, but rather a task force (with carrier) that was generated by the campaign file. First time I've ever had this happen. Needless to say, since I'd been bombed and riddled twice, I figured it best to return to port because of the unknown amount of hull damage.
