Anyone else playing this mod?? Installed it last night and it is quite alot of fun. Cheers to the creator of this wonderful mod. A nice change of pace in the SH3 world.

Anyone know any good sites with info on S-boats? I have it set so time between patrols is 5 days or so. Curious to see how often these boats went out.

http://www.prinzeugen.com/SBOATIND.htm, This is what I could find

I know they we're mostly used to patrol the Baltic and the English Channel, But because they had a limited range patrols probably didn't last as long as for the larger U-Boats

Thanks very much!

Yeah patrols usually last a few days for me on the S-boot. A great mod for some quick action. :smug:

A patrol in any kind of motor torpedo boat usually lasted one night. They would escort small coastal convoys, and attack the other guy's small coastal convoys.

They didn't exactly have room for the crew to sleep, or hold much food. They lived on shore.

went through a few websites and it seems they were out for a few days at least at times. the s-100 s-boots had a galley, small mess, sleeping quarters. nothing like a u-boat but they were definatly ready to spend some time on the water. they also had a range of 700 nm which is considered large for torp boats of that era.

Yeah...they had a galley and living quarters, but they used them only when docked. Yes, they had a noticeable range and dimensions if compared with the allied counterparts, but their missions lasted only one night, in order to attack with the cover of the darkness.

Yes its a great mod and Mikhayl has done a great job

Length of S-Boot missions varied, but it was always dependant of the perceived threat from enemy aircraft and naval forces.
Theater of operations was primarily English Channel, Baltic Sea, Black Sea, Meditteranean and Norway.
An important limitation in S-Boote operations was weather. Missions were cancelled for weeks even months, if the weather was bad. Operating weather limit for an S-Boot was around wind 6 and Sea state 5.
As enemy aircover and convoy escorts got better S-Boote almost only operated at night (already from 40-41, but this could be vary as per Theater).
Dense fog was not good either around enemy escorts with radar :ping:

The S-Boote had one ally though that we do not, and that is smoke. Mikhayl has created smoke for this mod, but the SH3 AI sees right through it, so it was discarded.

The massive allied bombings in June 44 of S-Boot bunkers really showed the high priority to remove this threat to allied shipping.

thanks for the info schuhart! very interesting.

in the mod I play my patrols usually around 2 days. during the day i find a cove or get right close to shore and wait for night to come. either way it is a great mod and has breathed new life into SH3 for me.

If you want some fun, start your S-Boote career in 1940 in Cherbourg.

Lots of activity off Portsmouth. Try patrolling 24 hours there!

Lots of Destroyers and Planes.

I managed 8/9 patrols before a sneaky hurricane sank me.

Only trouble is that Bdb always sent me out in the morning. I had to lounge about until afternoon then run out into the channel to arrive about dusk.

on my third S-Boot career now.

1st was going well. 8 patrols, decent tonnage for a little boat. Attacked a convoy and after sinking a few was under heavy attack and collided with a freighter. :dead:

Second career was attacked by 7 huricanes on my first patrol. It didnt end well.

Still alot of fun. High speed chases and torpedo runs on tankers while under heavy fire really make this mod incredible.
