How about the same thing for an "Aces of the Deep" revival?

I loved the PQ series, but didnt sign the petition. Why? Because 1 out of 10 adventure/point+click games done today are actually good. 2D graphics are pretty much dead and 3D just wont work with a series like PQ (or Broken Sword or Monkey Island or Indiana Jones or.. you get the point right?).

I'm happy to just forget it than wait for it for years, finally get it and realise it is but a shadow of the earlier games (*cough*Broken Sword 3->*cough*).

Out of curiosity - what would be some of those 1 out of 10?

I used to love adventure games back in the mid-90s when I first got a PC, but I've stayed away since 2D died a quiet death around that time.

Speaking only for my personal taste, Runaway series was something I liked very much, tho it was in 3D, but the graphics were more of a cartoony like, abit like team fortress 2 type. TBH, I think that's the only game that has been even close to the old adventure games in maaaany years. :nope:

What about Escape from Monkey Island? That made the 2D-3D transition without losing its appeal.

Maybe PQ shouldnt be done in 3D, but maybe touch up the 2D versions and add new things, like voice acting, easier driving sections, and a new case or two.

That's a question of personal taste. I myself, absolutely hate how it looks in 3D. ;)

I just might have to take my words back on the 3D thingy, just for PQ. It was more of a serious kind of game, instead of humorous like most of the adventure games at the time. It might actually be nice with 3D graphics, but for a title like PQ, the modelling and animations should be suberb for them to pass my examination. :p Heck, it could even work as an FPS viewed adventure game, bit like X-files the game, but naturally greatly enchanced to bring it up to today's standards. :hmm:

The original Police Quest was the first game I ever bought for the first PC I ever bought. Would love to see another.

I always say about games you liked back then
''keep the good memory about it''
perhaps if you can figure it out how to get it working on Todays systems and OS perhaps re-enjoy it.

but save yourself from getting those revamps....no matter graphic wise..it still will not be the thing you hoped for...mostly the story is screwed up and too easy...and misses the athmosphere it had back then...the thing you would even stay awake for in the later hours of the night.

Point and click games are like Books, it must really grab you for it to be fun to play it..back then these games needed a good story to be succesfull and the graphics made it a sort of Movie where you decided if it see the end credits.....today...its just :nope: a screw up in many ways Cheap story, short story, bumbo jumbo graphics...a story that make no sense at all....and in case of a sequel it has nothing related to the previous one and contain too much features it didnt had in the last one which makes the game unplayable as you get confused on how it works and what it really does.

In terms of graphics: its either the 2d Style or Photographic/Acting by persons
3D doesnt do it for me neither....it takes away something critical.

also athmosphere is important...

my favorite category in those games are : Detective/crime/Mystery and it must take place in history....sherlock for example or something around 1700
like that game you posted KP : Bow Street runners
http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=134954

the graphics are superb for a flash game, and the story (episoides) where pretty well made...and the athmosphere really made me complete the game in one spurt thought it just took me a couple of hours to complete it but had fun playing it.

EDIT:
Worms - a game that never made the transition from 2d to 3d successfully...

Indeed....the cartoonish Worms till Worms armageddon where good games to play with friends...a good laugh too by blasting eachother of the map.
