I have SH4 1.5 (U-Boat Missions) and Trigger Maru-Overhauled for 1.5 installed and noticed some sound problems. Some of the crew voices are muted, example: when surfacing crew voices giving orders are normal, but elsewhere in the game the voices acknowledging orders like speed change or depth change are barely heard.
Also when I switch to hydrophones I hear nothing unless I turn volume all the way up and then I hear static.
Any ideas on what the problems might be??
Thanks.....BitznBites

In a couple of other threads I posted similar issues. I forgot to mention the hydrophone issue, but i noticed that, too. This is all in stock 1.5, as well. My biggest problem is that the waves and engine noises are very loud and drown out everything else. I think if I reduce the volumes on those sound files to 1/3 of their present level, that it will make a huge difference in most areas.
I'm not sure what to do about the hydrophone, though. If it wasn't for the green light coming on, it would be useless.

I had similar issues. I am using a creative X-FI card. Weird thing was Im using 5.1 speakers but the creative control panel would only detect 7.1 which messes up the sound channels. I figured out how to key in the 5.1 set-up through the vista sound menu and many of my game sound issues went away. Engine sounds are still loud but most of the crew voices are fine and I can now hear through the hydrophones.

When I switch to 4 speakers things do improve, but it wasn't that long ago that running through 2 speakers worked just fine.
When I first got 1.5, I had 1.4 installed. When I decided to uninstall the game and installed multiple copies (with MulitSH4) of 1.5 directly after 1.0, I started noticing the sound issues. I'm leaning more toward an SH4 issue, as opposed to a MultiSH4 issue. The only thing that MultiSH4 really does is create a saved folder under My Documents.
I bet if I were to install with 1.4, first, and then 1.5, the sound issues would disappear. I'm thinking that 1.5 doesn't touch the sound files. So, what could be happening is that this sound issue is a 1.0 bug. 1.4 and earlier patches probably fixed it, but the 1.5 add-on doesn't. :hmm:

I built a new computer and am running Vista. I wonder if that could be the problem. I had SH4 ver 1.4 with TMO 1.4 installed on my other computer. When I installed on the new one I started with a fresh install from the original DVD. Then without starting the game I installed patches 1.2 thru 1.4. I downloaded and installed 1.5 (U-Boat Missions) and then installed TMO 1.5. Then I started the game and started a new career. It was when I was trying to sneak up on a task force with 2 BBs that I noticed the prob with the hydrophones. Needless to say it's very hard to sneak around all those DDs when you can't hear 'em. I have an ASUS MoBo and am using the onboard sound system since it will do 7.1 surround. I will try to set up for just stereo tonite and see if that makes any difference. Very vexing. If anybody has any other ideas sing out.

Installing all of the patches was unnecessary. Theoretically, all you need is the original and 1.5. Since you had 1.4 installed before 1.5 and you're still seeing the issue, it must be a 1.5 and/or Vista bug. Let me know if switching the speaker setup helps at all.

I found something interesting. If I am in the Control Room, where you can see the OD, then depth changes and course changes are heard. You just can't hear them when other places like the maps or periscopes, much less in the external camera view (which isn't Kosher but is too pretty to miss since so many folks have done so much good work on the graphics). The hydrophones ars still FUBAR
