View Full Version : Back to SH3 - GWX2 problem

Hello!
I've come back to playing SH3 after 12 months, forgot how good it was!
I was happy to see GWX had been upgraded to v.2, so I re-installed SH3 as recommended, with a good scrub with CCleaner to get rid of all the loose bits, applied patch 1.4, then GWX2.
I have no problem getting it all the start; it's just that when I'm in the first few days of my first career patrol (usually just coming out of the Kiel Canal and heading North-West towards the North Sea), the game hangs and a minute later I get the "...has encountered an error and needs to close" message of death.
Somtimes this happens on day 2, once it held out till day 4, but it's getting frustrating as GWX1.3(?) worked fine as I remember and going back to Stock issue just isn't the same!

Here's my PC specs, if it helps-

Windows XP SP2
Intel Core CPU6300 @ 1.86 GHz
1GB Ram
Radeon X1650 Series grphs card

Running SH3, cleanly installed, patched to 1.4, GWX2, tried with and without SH3 Command

Much thanks in advance for any help or advice, please let me know if you need to know more info.

Sorry to hear you're having problems. Are you running any additional mods other than GWX2?

I'm afraid 1 Gb of RAM seems a little on the light side for GWX2. It sounds as though something in your system ( RAM, or graphics card ) simply can't cope when the game spawns a lot of detail, as it does around Cuxhaven / Wilhelmshaven.

You could try something like the Light Harbour Traffic mod which may help.

I agree with Von Manteuffel;
Disable any mods, free up RAM with a program such as FSAutostart, and strongly consider adding 1Gb of RAM.
Did you do a clean install of SHIII, patched to 1.4b, GWX 2.0, and did you delete the SH3 folder in "my docunents" before installing?

Yep, 1GB is plenty enough (2GB would obviously be better).

Delete everything (including C/MyDocs SH3) but try using the game disc to perform the uninstall operation.

Go to the GWX website (viewable from my sig) and follow the installation instructions to the letter http://www.psionguild.org/forums/images/smilies/wolfsmilies/pirate.gif
