Greetings Fellow kaleuns
Can anyone please tell me ,when im being dc'd i get a message from my weapons officer saying" decoys are ready to be launched" herr kaleun. i looked at the manuevers of the chief icon and it looks as though there is an icon for it but i cant activate it
So how does one go about launching a decoy?

If you mean a VIIB they don't have them http://www.psionguild.org/forums/images/smilies/wolfsmilies/pirate.gif

Probably just a glitch if you don't have decoys loaded on your boat. The Chief engineer launches decoys from the Manuevers icon it won't be there unless you have used your renown to load them. What year are your sailing in? They were not available before '43 I believe.

Well, the weapons officer will probably tell you the decoy launchers are ready is when they were damaged and repaired. I had the same thing a patrol ago (however, I did have the decoys installed).
Or, you have run out of decoys. Rule this out, since you didn't know how to launch them, it would be hard to believe you've been depleted!
Most likely it is just a glitch, the WO telling you the sonar launchers are ready to be used after being damaged, even without having them installed.
The best thing of course is to have them installed! They can be a real life saver.

:hmm: :hmm: :hmm:
I've launched a few bolds in my VIIb in 1.03, of course usually I don't need them :ping:
paulasteffan; the "J" key does the deed if your boat has them.

Somewhere in 40....would have to check the CFG file to be sure :hmm:
Decoys help the RN to find you and good night. Never use the bloody things, why make it ease for the RN?

He prolly is, but still...
If you decide to get stubborn, stay stationary and launch a couple of Bolds, then aren't you actually putting up a huge billboard saying "a U-boat hereabouts, come and give it to me good"? :hmm:

Yes, it is always important to know whether they have a clue about where you are, or they are just dropping depth charges all over the place.

Every time I used them and good night. :dead:
Not using them has resulted in a better chance of living.

Good info. I would presume that they are best used, like ECM jamming, when the enemy already knows that you're there. Nice to see that confirmed. It's just the start of 1941, so I guess I have them, but I fortunately haven't had to use them yet. Dive fast, dive deep, and go slow!

Best used when an escort has passed over you and your in his baffles (directly behind him).
Drop a decoy then crank up your speed and turn 30 degrees port or starboard.
Go to silent running (preferably 1 knot) before he turns and hopefully he'll go for the decoy. http://www.psionguild.org/forums/images/smilies/wolfsmilies/pirate.gif

Running into a "DD spotted" often results in the DD turning towards me before I'm under the surface. In this case I go to full speed and turn away from the DD until he is at 180°. He knows exactly where I am and heads in my direction. I dive to 25 and let a bold go - still at full speed and go back to PD. The bold covers my signature until the DD reaches the location because it is between me and him. It gives me some minutes to run at full speed perfectly away from the DD before I rig for silent at two knots. He allways takes the bait and drops his DCs over the bold.
Try it youself!
