How do you trick the installation CD into installing a 2nd copy of SHIV onto the HD? I renamed the main folder of the first installation to "Silent Hunter IV - US", but it must be picking up the game in the Windblows XP registry. Any help is appreciated.

Can't you just make a copy of the SHIV folder?

Use Multi SH4 that can be found in the mods forum. Outstanding tool !!

@ SP: My experience with installed programs is that it no only writes files to the hard drive, but also information into the operating system registry. This tells Windows how to run the given application. On the other hand, since they are pretty much identical, exept for some planned mod differences (GE vs US), one would think that the registry wouldn't care which version was running, since the executable is still the same.
Thanks, aanker.

In the past when I have done this I also did a back-up of SH4 in My Documents and deleted that folder as well. I think this is your problem. After you do this, the DVD should do a fresh install to the Program Files>Ubisoft>Silent Hunter 4 <------ New Install. Use Multi SH4 to rename the save folder, when this is done you can copy and paste your SH4 folder you backed up earlier to My Documents ( that is if you wanted to save previous career stuff).
Once you have the fresh install, copy and paste to another folder, say Fresh SH41-5. That way if you ever want to do another fresh install, all you have to do is use this one, re-naming the .exe to match that install
Hope this helps.

Staying Power is correct.
All you need to do is create a new folder, then copy your current
copy of SH4 into that folder. Install Mutish4 in that folder
and run it to create a 3 character folder in the My Documents folder.
I currently have 6 copies of SH4 running: 3 for 1.4 and 3 for 1.5.
I haven't had any problems with any of them running.

All you need to do is create a new folder, then copy your current
copy of SH4 into that folder.
Even this step is not necessary. Simply install and patch SH4 once, then copy and paste the whole install folder as many times as desired. Once done, rename your new "Copy of SilentHunter4" folders to whatever you want.
Tip: create one extra copy called "SilentHunter4 - backup" for easy restoration if you ever corrupt one of the other copies.

It looks like I'll be needing that back-up sooner than later. I posted the issue I'm having under the loud engine/wave noise thread.

Has anyone noticed sound anomolies from having multiple installs?

None here.

PS: aside from one CTD caused by the old version of the Taihosan Maru, I think I am the only one that has never had a problem with anything in SH4. ( knock on wood ;-)

I've had very few CTDs, as well and I hope it stays that way. Usually, they are caused by changing a mod and trying to load a saved game. So, it's more my fault than a mod problem.
Once I edit the engine and wave sound files to a decent volume, the copies will be playable. Right now they almost drown out everything as if I was being dragged behind the boat.
