I'm on a photo recon assignment and when I got close to shore in a narrow channel, I got a "ship sighted" alert. It was night and I was surfaced to save battery juice. Suddenly I took a hit just after the alert. I panned the area with my bridge scope but could not find any ships. Shore batteries were not evident on the map when I checked it.

So are there shore batteries in SH4 and if they can see me, shouldn't I be able to see them?

Yes there are shore batteries. They look like little gun turrets on the terrain.

You can see them in your binoculars if your careful and close enough, but if you can see them, your in firing distance of one.

No, they dont show up on the map, and why should they? There is absolutely no way a submarine would know what ground troop movements are.

If you want to see one without getting killed. Check out the entrance to Pearl Harbor. There are 4 of them (2 on each side of the entrance)

Yep,they are around,I found out the hard way myself. Usually, near any port, there may be some shore batteries. Nasty things.

Yes, that does make sense. I was spoiled by SH3 as many ground units were reported near land and appeared on the map including shore batteries. Thanks for the info.

It seems they would give away their position after the first round. If only we could fire back after that, this would be an improvement. Now you just have to duck and run.
