Gunboat

I did a search but didn't find an answer: Is the draft on a gunboat to shallow to hit with a torpedo? I know they are fast and the few times I ran into them in the open ocean I just figured they were evading the shot, but then I found a couple in a harbor and the shot went right under and hit the dock behind them.
How do you deal with these little pain in the necks? Any time I try to surface my boat ends up like swiss cheese before I can get shallow enough to man the deck gun. I found it's not hard to sink them it's just that get so many "free shots" before I can get in a shot.

I have tried to sink the little bastards before with the same results you had, right under the keel and kept going.:-?
I usually avoid them but I was thinking that maybe a cutie would drop one but I've never had the chance to try.

I had the same problem in the Makassar Strait a while ago, got chased around by 2 gunboats and I couldn't sink even though a few of my torps went right under them, I think maybe a torpedo functioning correctly on minimum depth and on magnetic detonator might be able to sink them

Did you try setting for magnetic detonation? Then the torpedo might explode.
