Remember when your parent told you to look both ways before crossing the street? Very good advice! Had to share this. I was north of the Bismark Sea, near I think it's the Caroline Islands? I got a task force contact report, up near Guam heading due south, right toward me. So I do a little zip-zag pattern and sure enough found them. But it was a small task force, not it quantity but only two "Big ships" One Fuso BB and one fleet carrier. Rest were all cruisers and DDs and one merchant, probably a tanker. So I get into position and didn't check outside....FULL MOON. I put up my scope too soon and I think the lead DD spotted it, because the Task Force started to change direction. I spun my scope around and sure enough the lead DD is coming right at me. So I turn to port and start to head north into the main body for cover, and what do I see, the bb and the carrier have turned to port and are now on a 90 degree track in front of me. I put three in the BB and try to get three into the carrier which is partially coverd by the BB in front of it. Well, instead of doing the right thing and diving, I stay to see what happens :damn: Four hit the BB and two hit the carrier. The BB explodes the carrier has the aft in the water almost up to the flightdeck, so I dive and head north. Since I am no good with the hydrophones I go to the map. I count 4 DDs after me. I see a bit later the carrier shows on the map as sunk, and guess where the DDs that were with her decide to go....you got it, now I have 8 on me. But wait...it get's "BETTER".

I am trying to evade any where I can find a hole, and try not to give them broadside, but kind of hard with 8 of them. So I can basically only go North, NW and NE. I tried to fool them by doing a 180 and go south, didn't work. So, I continue north turn a bit one way then the other etc.
Well, here come the fun part! There was another larger Task Force following this one, so since I was heading north, guess what I ran into. YUP !!!! And since this TF 'only' had 8 after me, they decided to jump in and lend a hand. I don't have any idea how many I had up there but it was a lot. I don't see a task force for two years on this career and now I got the whole Japanese Navy 300ft above me. In fact I think they went and bought the Add-on and brought some Germans with them too.

And wouldn't ya know it, the first DC to come even close to me knocks out my engines!! "Say goodnight, Dick. Goodnight Dick" (from Laugh-in for you younger folks). So now, I'm a sitting duck. They came over one right after another. Next thing I know the entire Damage control panel is lit up!!! That was the end of that.

So, thankfully it's a game, so I reloaded and did it right the second time. Patience!! Not is such a hurry to see what was up there. Some times you don't want to know!!
This is definately a game of patience but I was so happy to see some warships instead of the three million 'small old split freighters' I did everything wrong.

Ah, Mr. Peabody. A few questions:

1) How far were you from the nearest contact before attacking and how fast were you going? If you were noisy and close the enemy will pick you up.

2) How deep can you go after the attack? If you got the depth those DDs can be evaded. Just go deep and silent.

Or what's worse than not finding any task forces in two years? Finding two task forces together.

Yes it's so easy to make mistakes when you get excited. A little CV mania is all it takes.

8 DD's....Yike!!! :lost: It's enough to make you want to choose a safer occupation, like underwater demolition or crash test dummy.

I applied for crash test dummy, I failed the exam.:rotfl:

I was a little less than 1000 yds don't know exactly. Like I commented I think the DD saw my scope I put it up way too soon, looking for a nice target.
But they had me surrounded before I got deep enough, so they knew where I was. I tried to evade but this time it didn't work. Slow and silent except for those load bangs from the DC, couldn't even get a good nights rest before I got blown up.....

If you want really dangerous work try changing diapers.:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

Too bad for your loss. I have still to be damaged by escorting DDs after a convoy attack. No one can find old DJFL. That's because after launching torps I dive deep past thermal layer, silent and change direction.

This seems to work really well, or the stock 1.4 DDs are just not that good at listening, even at 5 knots I can travel away with no problem, as long as they were not on top of me at the time.

At 7 knots, even at 3k yards they come straight for me.
