View Full Version : Good WWII Tank sims?

Although I spend many hours playing my much-beloved SH3, I do get the occasional hankering for other sims.

I used to greatly enjoy playing the various tanks sims from years gone by but the last tank game I bought was Infogrames' "Tiger Hunt".

I've noticed many of the tank games out there are really just RTS-style and I've been wanting a good tank sim that literally puts you in the driver's seat/cupola/gunner-loader positions or just let's you issue commands to your crew while you're doing the commander thing. I'd prefer WWII but any era after this would work for me as well.

I have an older but capable system that can handle almost any games published from 2006 and prior. New games usually exceed my specs.

Any suggestions on where I might find an oasis to slake my thirst in this parched desert of the tank sim genre?

Don't want to be unpolite, but please use the search-button, or look manually, since this forum is not counting high in postings. Questions of WWII tank sims have been asked time and again - and got answered as often. :) A new WWII tanksim is pending. Panzer Elite is old, but available second hand. SBP is the better alternative to everything out there at the present, and forseeable future as well.

Thank you for your guidance and advice, Skybird.

With the predominance of postings and stickies pertaining to Steel Beasts Pro, I wasn't sure a search would turn up much that was useful to me, especially with an older computer such as mine.

Threads on WWII tank sims are there, trust me. ;) A new WWII-sim is pending, plenty of screenshots and postings on it, at least two long threads, and more threads with questions on it as well. I'm just too lazy too search it for you. :)

Given this thread, I'd have to say I'm too lazy to search for it myself, either! :rotfl:

Thanks for the info and patience with me, though. :)

P.S.: I'll take a look-see around. ;)

Major hope for the future of WWII tanking:

Damn, the screenies are already gone since then. Go to the developer's homepage.

Thanks for the heads-up on this, Skybird, but the site returns a HTTP-404 error. :-?

It seems this site does not exist anymore.

Ah well. I guess I'll go over to eBay or Amazon and see if there's any copies of 'Panzer Elite' still floating around.

That is strange, for me clicking the link I set up works perfectly. Go to page three of this forum, find a thread with 68 posts that is named "New WWII tank sim on the horizon".

Edit: Forget it, it just is above this thread, Konovalov has brought it forward again. Damn the man, he really ruined it! :)

I can't find anything new on this tank sim. I fear that it may be dead in the water.

You look here:
http://www.lighthouse-interactive.com/T34-vs-Tiger-Delayed

Original release date was not to be met, a new date has not yet been announced.

Haarlem, The Netherlands - March 19, 2008 - Publisher Lighthouse has announced that its tank simulator for PC ‘WWII Battle Tanks: T-34 vs Tiger', originally scheduled for April 2008, has been delayed. A new date has not yet been set.
Raymond Snippe, Development Manager for Lighthouse Interactive, said: "T34 has a lot going for it. The combination of gorgeous graphics, realistic physics models, interactive environments and exhilarating multiplayer gameplay justifiably makes this a highly anticipated simulation." He went on to say: "Because it is so highly anticipated and because of the community feedback that reached us after the Russian release, we wanted to give the developer the extra time to polish the game to make sure we deliver the best product possible. We expect to announce a new release date in the near future."

The few screenshots I've seen look absolutely gorgeous! :D

Unfortunately for me, it probably requires far more capable hardware than I have and also will only run in Windows Vista due to DirectX 10 being required (ugh!).

I wish I could simply download into my brain everything in my game programming library of books and make an open source tank sim that could be modded for any war since WWI. :ping:

Back to the hunt for Panzer Elite, I suppose.

Thanks for pointing me to the right place for that web site, Skybird. :)
