My blog site count jumped by eighty tonight!I normally get only a few visitors a day so this is strange.A blogger whose site is dedicated to cigarettes has left a complimentary comment. How can i tell if my blog is under attack and what by?

My traffic report shows links to my page from lots of non-existant blogs and also from something calling itself btcentralplus. The latter found its way to my blog from here. Should I be worried?

80 extra views is not something to be worried by.
If you get 1000 extra views it is time to worry a little.
It could just be a few crawlers passing by.

A persistant crawler is btcentralplus.comThey have been on the blog twice in the last hour. The last one has his language settings on US English even though they are allegedly based in the UK at Sheffield. The other was based in London. They will return once I have posted this.It always seems to activate them!!

Do you have a robots.txt (http://www.google.com/support/webmasters/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=40360) ?

It will mean that some search engines will not link to you, but it will keep away many crawlers.
