Hi Everybody,
Does Londonderry figure in this game? If not, why not? It was a very important and busy base for escorts and submarines during the war, being a quick way into the Atlantic. I also notice that it appears to be about 9 miles N.E. of it's true location. It is at the inland end of the Foyle, not the entrance, as shown. I was based there on a Loch class frigate. Very interesting, the run up river from Moville then past Lisahaly, the fuelling jetty, where many surrendered U Boats were berthed.
happy Memories!

It might have a few ships, but I doubt that it will be harbouring submarines.

Some harbours have an abundance of military traffic, others have minimal.

Imagine my surprise after a long cruise to Norfolk, the world's largest naval base, only to find two destroyers!

Its all present and correct in GWX.

+If i remember right Londonderry the starting point for operation Deadlight.
At the war`s end in 1945 any surrendered Uboats were transferred to `Derry and from there towed out to sea and used for target practice by the RAF. I remember seeing it on the BBC series called Coast.

I read somewhere recently that as regards the U-boats sunk during Operation Deadlight there is a salvage operation planned because of the quality of the steel used in the construction of their pressure hulls. It seems that the world was a much cleaner environment when they were constructed and the steel in question has a low level of radioactivity and is therefore much better suited for the production of hyper-sensitive meters than is present day steel.
