Completing partrol of area

Hello all :D

Quick question. When you get assigned to patrol an area, what must be done? DO you stay near the mark on the map for a certain amount of time? Or the general surrounding area?

Depends on what mods you're using. With stock SHIV you have to stay within 20 miles of the specified area over a period of at least 3 days. Some mods, like Trigger Maru, enlarge the area or your patrol-time.
When i get such a "mission" i'm totally happy, because the patrol-areas are usually at a place where nothing happens, except the odd aircraft. Submerged at day, surfaced at night, bidding my time. When the time is up and i request a new misson, i hope that i ain't getting such a patrol-misson again.

In the stock game I sometimes shut down the engines to conserve fuel while smack in the middle of that star waiting for it to turn gray. Sounds unrealistic, but if there were no contacts in a certain radius it seemed wiser than just trawling in slow circles burning diesel.

I do that too, though I'm usually submerged. Got the idea from O'Kane's book.
