how do u do some of the mission with sh3Gen i.e sneak into a port and investigate ship traffic , local defense, port facilities and weather reports how do u get the info and send it back to HQ i use gmx2.0 with sh3Gen v0.7.1 and what are the best mods to use
I've always thought of sh3gen as being your intelligence network comprised of other ships, u-boats, and planes reporting their sitings. Over the course of a real patrol you'd get radio messages with small tidbits of information; whereas sh3gen gives it to you all in one lump report. Bdu will only give you useful information like this when major operations take place such as the invasion of Norway, evacuation of Dunkirk where he'll order any ships in the area to assist.

IIRC it's a standalone mod and a good one.
I would guess it will work with GWX2.0
I haven't got around to reinstalling it.

The missions you get from SH3Gen are there for immersion only. You don't have to do them and you don't get renown for them.

I keep both parameters on mine set very low. I get very little information and what I do get is usually bad. That's my version of immersion.:sunny:

It should work fine with GWX2.0 (I use it myself).
Personally speaking, I ignore the missions but pay heed to the traffic indicator.

I used it for my GWX 2.0 career just fine. I use the GIS viewer to print off maps from the file. As far as the missions, I went into Calais to check the traffic and harbor defenses, wrote down my findings for the "effect" of doing the Recon. Counted ships, took note of nationalities, avoided armed coastal patrols, took note of the defenses by the number of shells hitting my boat on the way out......etc. Everything worked great until I managed to hit the erase all button on the NAV map. :damn:
Never let the Navigator keep his coffee next to the map.

It does indeed work fine with GWX 2.0 and SHC. If you're having absolutely abysmal luck its a nice little helper to help direct you to areas where there is heavy traffic or confirmed spottings. Otherwise just trolling the usual convoy routes will net you some good tonnage.

I just got my Silent Hunter III installed and I'm trying to configure my S3Gen to go to my saved file U55 in My Documents. But I'm having problems. I forget how to configure it as I have multi-installation of SH3.
There are two files I need to fill in in SH3 Gen
Target:
Start In:
Would you mind telling me what goes in each as I forget how to do it.

You may want to check the Sh3Gen.ini file in the Sh3 Gen folder. It contains path-lines for SH3-game folder and your (last) savegame. The "Target" and "Start in" sounds like they are entries in a windows shortcut-file. That only needs to point to a particular installation of Sh3Gen. Target is the Sh3Gen.exe file. "Start in" I don't know for sure, but would normally be the (Sh3Gen) application folder itself. I don't know how you should handle multiple installations of Sh3Gen. But I think you don't need to if you don't mind manually searching your savegames. Maybe GlobalExplorer (the guy that wrote Sh3Gen) can tell you more how to make/manage dual installs of Sh3Gen. Or did I misunderstand you on that?

Thanks Pisces. Yes I have three installs: The regular SH3 heavily modded, TWX and GWX2 so there are three saved games in "My Documents"
Maybe I need three SH3Gen, but I remember before my computer crashed (hard drive corruption and had to pay $4,000 to get all the data off it) I used only 1 SH3Gen and would use it for all 3 saved games. Don't remember how I did it though.

I found no registry entries for Sh3Gen in my Windows XP. So, I suspect it would be no problem to make 3 installations of Sh3gen in differently named folders, 3 appropriately named shortcuts (on desktop) to start each one, and editing the .ini-file (or setting through menu, as you need to select the latest savegame anyway) to point to the appropriate savegame folder. BUT, do so at your own risk, or contact Global Explorer(Christian Wendt, email in ? in Sh3Gen menu) to be sure. I never needed more than one instance.
