Okay, luckely I saved the game at around May 30th and I know the battle starts somewhere around the 4th or 6th of June. I have my boat stationed at midway, but I cannot for the life of me find any attacking japos ANYWHERE around the island.

I have tried, and scoured the area countless times and It would really help if anyone could point me into the general viscinity of where they attack from in the campaign.

I went as far as loading the battle of midway quick mission and stealing the coords and to just go there at the correct time, but no dice it is not the same and does not work.

Anyone know where exactly i can look?:arrgh!:

Are you running any mods? The stock game is a little wacky on the historical engagements; in my last career, I left Pearl on May 24th, 1942, and made a speed run for Midway, then tooled around there for 2 weeks without seeing any ships. When I got fed up, I refueled then headed on to my goals. I returned to port in late July, then when I set out on my next mission in late August of '42, I encountered one of the Battle of Midway fleets!

ah okay, I'm running the vanilla version so I'm not sure. I was really hoping that it would be pretty accurate with the historical stuff like this but oh well.

I have a hypothesis; I think the stock game bases the spawning of the historical engagements on when you leave your home port on a patrol. I think that if you leave port within a certain window of 1942, it'll spawn the Midway ships, otherwise it waits until your next patrol. If you feel like confirming this for me, go about your patrol and when you leave next time, head to Midway and hang around for a bit. Let me know if you encounter IJN fleets. :D

CypherX,

You'll want to install the RSRDC mod for your respective version of the game and I also recommend the new air layer mod. They make traffic and historical encounters a lot more accurate. Just visit the mod forum.

I'm getting close to June 19, 1944 and have RSRD installed. It's almost showtime for the Battle of the Phillipine Sea.

I plan to hang out around Tawi Tawi for the next week or so and see what shows up.

I haven't had much luck locating events as they occured. I came across what I thought was the Java invasion fleet and sunk three of their personnel transports and a heavy crusier, and short time after I dissengaged the taskforce I got a radio report that Java hand fallen. So I dont think you can change history.

I've always wondered what would happen if a wolf pack of american subs showed up at Wake Island at the right time, would it have gone differently. Then I remember the crappy Mk14 torpedos and say to myself, "nope!"

"Same as it every was, same as it ever was, same as it ever was, same as it ever was"......(say this while moving your right hand in an up and down motion in front of your face, if you don't get it, talk to some one who grew up in the 80's)

I don't really care about changing history. I just want to bag another CV.

A semi-releted RSRD thought; I sank the Shokakku in the Bungo Straits in late 1942 and am wondering if it will show up at Philipine Sea.

Well, Midway battle took place frome 4th to 6th of june '42 around 30? lat. n. and 180 long. I'm playing US campaign and I Stay during this time at these coordinates, but I can see only some planes (probably those that bombed Midway) and sometimes a jap task force going north at full speed. I think there is something wrong...

I put the same post on ubi.com forum and I had this reply from "dgrayson"...
I'll Try again.

Midway is in the game. I got to fight in it.
Here is an over view map. Get there on the 2nd, NW of Midway about 200 miles. Look for Jap recon planes and head for their track.

Here is one with a little more detail.

For those who are interested (and adventurous) there is a task force of 2 Musashi class BB's, 4 escort carriers, and 2 fleet carriers anchored in the bay outside Tawi Tawi one May 23, 1944. This appears to be a part of the carrier force preparing for the battle of the Philippine Sea which historically took place around June 19th.

The problem is that it's anchored 11 miles into into water that's about 50' deep. I snuck in during the day close enough to get a visual on them and reported it to ComSubPac, but got out quickly again because of the aircraft coverage.

I only have 3 Mark 18's left, and I'm going to try sneaking in at night. Currently I'm submerged at 200 feet just outside the 100 fathom line waiting for nightfall.

I'm running RSRD, and I'm sure that this a feature of this mod.

Well, I can confirm, got me a new Gato and left Pearl May 4th 1942, headed for Midway, then plotted a course 150 miles bearing 320 from Midway. IIRC that was the correct distance and bearing altho I haven't read "Miracle at Midway" for a couple years, and no longer have the book. Running PV 1.4, no mods. Sat at the correct location from May 24th to June 6th in fast time, at which point I got a message that the battle had taken place, apparently in a different dimension. :nope:

I know this thread is almost 4 years old but better late than never.

I managed to find the remnants of the Jap fleet retreating due west at 20 knots. Date was June 6/42 about 2 nm east of 173 30'E and just north of 29 30'N at 19:09 hours. These coordinates will put you right in the center column of the TF.

TF consists of 4 heavy cruisers defended lightly by about 4 tin cans spread over an area of about 10nm. I was lucky to land this spot by accident as it provided excellent firing solutions on the first cruiser and the second despite taking evasive action.

The Battle of Midway has the same problem as the Attack on Pearl Harbor mission, and I assume all of the stock major battles (but I have not checked them all. They are written wrong. For example we know the Attack on Pearl Harbor was Dec 7, the mission is in there and it is dated for Dec 7 but the Japanese ships are just leaving port. So instead of using the date they left port they used the day the should have arrived at Pearl. And the same is true with the Midway mission, the ships are not there yet, although with the Midway mission the ships are not in port but somewhere in the Pacific, the closest group is 1800 KM away. And the US ships are at the entrance to Pearl Harbor.

:88)

After sinking 3 IJN carriers in the Bundo Strait, I was able to race ahead to Midway, refill on torpedoes, and head out to the Northwest. Was then able to pick up planes on the radar and followed them back to Nagumo's carriers - he still had at least 3, of which I was able to hit zero. I decided to cheat and check the mission editor; apparently the task forces begin an end at historically accurate points, and Nagumo's strike force was splint in two until just before the battle. Thus, when his strike force combined, the old group that I had attacked disappeared and a new one (at full historical complement) was reformed. Also, as I suspected, the air strikes are scripted separately from the ships, so the bombers that hit Yorktown will launch even if all Nagumo's carriers are sunk by then. Interesting. And overall a great effort by the RSRD team

Both stock and TMO 2.0, since the map is in Long, and Lat., the co-ordinates are:

Battle of Midway: The Japanese task force will be coming at

178.18 East
32.35 North

This will put you right smack in the middle of 8 DD's, 4 Carriers, 1 BB, 2 light cruisers. This should be right before dawn the morning of the attack.

Yep. Best mod for getting the battles as realistic as possible for the game.
