Sad news.

Many of todays film stars don't seem to carry the same gravitas that the 'old guard' did.

Sad news.

Many of todays film stars don't seem to carry the same gravitas that the 'old guard' did.

So true. For german readers, from today's "Die Welt": Lauren Bacall in interview, saying "every dilletant today gets jubilated and hyped."

Also, "stars' " payment is simply this: ridiculously high. Not a single one there is justifying 20 million by his acting, not a single one, nobody, even amongst those I like to see. The scaling does not match, has lost the ground of reality under it's feet.

In a toast to the dear departed I will now watch "The Frogmen", starring Richard Widmark, Dana Andrews and Gary Merrill

"In this thrilling WWII adventure, a new commanding officer (Widmark) is sent to tighten the discipline of a group of Navy underwater demolition experts, a.k.a. frogmen. Replacing a popular officer whom the men idolized, the new comander at first wins few friends with this strict style. He finally proves himself by risking his own life to disarm a live torpedo, and then helps the en prepare for a critical, but dangerous mission - sabotaging a Japanese submarine base."

Too bad the old ones ranks are thinning. Here's a glass held high, with respect.
