View Full Version : Help! ROW MOD slowed my boat down!
Is this an expected effect of the 'ROW Sub reflections' MOD?
Balao Sub.
My speed now, submerged at 1/3 is 2k, at 2/3 is 3k, and standard is 5k.
It says in the readme that 1/3 is now a good silent running speed.
But it was when I could do 3k also..;) ...now I can only do 2k at 1/3 speed!
I like the rest of the MOD, but I'd like to over right it with the 'Battery Life' MOD.
Has anyone done that?....JSGME says it conflicts:hmm: .
Your boat isn't slower, its top speed is the same. Dave set the speeds for each bell in that mod at a more realistic setting.
The top speed of the boat is the same.
Maybe I should have titled the thread "Changed 1/3 speed from 3k to 2k".
But you get the idea.....;) .
It's a GREAT mod.
But I'd like to tweak it if I could....that 'change' I'd like to pass on.
If it comes with the package, and it can't be 'tweeked'...fine.
I'm just wondering if I can, with the 'Battery Life' MOD.
I'm guessing it would overwrite the original game files...but would it work.
I hate to have to re-install before I add on 1.5, for nothing.

Edit;
I've been thinking about this, the README with the ROW mod didn't touch on this much. I read the README that was posted with Dave's 'Sub Speed' MOD;
http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=115260 ,back in May of 2007.
I'm guessing this is the same change he made in this ROW mod.
He explained it better in the above thread.
He made it so 'Standard' was the best Telemeter setting for mileage, and in ROW, 'Ahead Slow' was the best Silent running setting. I never used the Standard setting much before.....sounds like a good idea, I'll get used to it, I like it the way it is.

Why don't you just order up the speed you want via the telegraph? Make the crew earn their salary! :D

In the stock game, Ahead 1/3 while submerged would put you going roughly 3.5 knots. This is too fast, for two reasons. First, it makes you easier to detect when the enemy is searching for you and second, it's quite inefficient for battery life. The default in ROW was 20% of your top speed for each throttle increment, which worked out a lot better. It also helped in the fuel economy department, because now Ahead 2/3 put you between 8 and 9 knots on the surface. The later versions of Trigger Maru change this even more.
