basic upgrade help

first of all would like to thank all for previous help-got ram and sh3 stock is playing flawlessly-i think. my problem is while in port after mission when trying to upgrade sub i can't tell if they took(the upgrades). for instance, tried to upgrade sub from v11b to v11c-late 42 so i should be able to do this, but screen always defaults to v11b, ok, will try conning tower-have nearlly 2,000 renown so it should not be a problem. i choose conning tower, click one that needs most renown and it shows up on screen,then exit to weapons ect. and do same thing until i get to specials-put emblem on boat thinking if that shows up the rest of the upgrades will also be enalbed. am i doing somthing wrong cause when i go to mission i can,t see it. just what is the step by step method for doing this(all upgrades) providing i have enough renown, also do you spend renown-will it show a decrease if upgrade sucessfull? got sh3 from direct download thingy so no manual and pdf man. dosen,t tell you anything, have tried search on forum and community is down. also would to get sh3 commander, but like the idiot i am did not save files before playing, so if i have to reinstall i would be screwed, do'es this require reinstall? sorry about stupid ?s but mabye can't see forest thru trees, after all i am ex jarhead so that might explain it! any help(benhard excluded) greatly appreaciated-oddly enough have rest of game figured out pretty good, just that upgrade renown stuff.. thanks in advance devildog:rock:

Yes your renown should decrease the moment you spend it.
You have to double click the item you want to purchase than another screen will pop up asking you if you are sure? Click yes and that is it.

You shouldnt have to reinstall to use SH3 Commander? Not sure I understand you on this.

Also try GWX mod I always recomend it. No more game instead historical sim!

thanks freiwillige,don't think i've done that yet- in mission now so will try when and if i make it back to port-bombers everywhere- grid ge94, must be carrier or gilblatior-sempter-fi back to ya thanks

I think you need to upgrade before leaving for a new mission ("in port before mission"), NOT after you finished the last one ("in port after mission"). Otherwise, some upgrades are lost, and so is your renown.
