Hi Everybody!

Installed SH3 after purchasing from a "bargin bin". What a GREAT GAME!!! I've patched it upto 1.4b and it's running great. Only thing is I notice AA isn't turned on. Also texture filter looks like it's 2x. I was wondering how to adjust the graphics settings in the game. The frontend has a horrible graphics adjustment panel, for all intensive purposes NONE. It's the only really lame thing regarding this game is the lack of a graphics adjustment control panel. It's like the frontend in these terms is for console heads. Please get back to me with info regarding how to edit/adjust graphics settings VIA a .cfg or .ini etc file within the game dir. I have a modern computer with top of the line graphics adapter (8800GTS 512m) and there is no reason the game engine can't be cranked to MAX. Thanks for your help and I looking forward to being appart of this online gaming community.

Hey,

Poking around the ..\SilentHunterIII folder I found the dir where all the config stuff is stored. Great to see it has MANY elements that affect gameplay that can be adjusted with simple text editor. Great to see it isn't compiled into some unusable format. As with regards to graphics engine adjustment/variables I found a file called Main.cfg that sems to contain settings related to graphics card. I don't see anything related to rendering settings though, just related to resolution. Below is [Video] section of the config:

[VIDEO]
Resolution=1024 x 800
DynamicShadows=No
FullScreen=Yes
Synchronized=No
ParticleDensity=100
TextureResolutionHigh=Yes

I guess the settings for AA and AF are built/set in the exe at runtime though I also bet you can place settings in there to override/change defaults.

Hi Solid-State, Welcome Aboard!

First things first - get GWX2.0!

Believe me, it's worth it - it changes the stock game (which I presume you are running) into something VERY special.

As for graphics, I'm now using a tool called nHancer after recommendations on this board. It allows easy tweaking of all the AA and AF settings etc. I don't have a 8800 card, so you may already have an application for this purpose.

There are literally tons of tips and tutorials on this forum, and we're a friendly bunch here too!

Enjoy your stay!

Hi thanks for the reply,

I was wondering how I can set the game to run at 1680 x 1050. I have nHancer set and have to manual set the profile because the auto game detection with 169.21 is broken. I've also tried to enter my resolution in the Main.cfg file to no avail. I was wonder about this setting "Maxmum=1024" under the [TIME COMPRESSION] section...

Main.cfg is as follows:

[SETTINGS]
LoadingMovie=No
VoiceCommand=No
DisableMessages=Yes
EventCamera=Yes
TextsLanguage=0
VoicesLanguage=0

[TIME COMPRESSION]
TimeStop=0
RealTime=1
LandProximity=4
CriticalDamage=1
CrewEfficiency=1
AirEnemyDetected=1
SoundEffects=2
CharacterAnim=4
EnemyDetected=8
RadioReport=8
Particles=8
PrayState=8
HunterState=32
3DRender=32
Maximum=1024

[VIDEO]
Resolution=1680 x 1050
DynamicShadows=No
FullScreen=Yes
Synchronized=No
ParticleDensity=100
TextureResolutionHigh=Yes

[SOUND]
Music=Yes
VolumeGeneral=100
VolumeMusic=100
VolumeFx=100
VolumeSpeech=100

I guess I will try to set the "Maximum=1024" to 1680 and see what happens... wish me luck!!!

The Maximum=1024 applies to time compression

The video settings

[VIDEO]
Resolution=1680 x 1050
DynamicShadows=No
FullScreen=Yes
Synchronized=No
ParticleDensity=100
TextureResolutionHigh=Yes

Are also reached ingame after first loading
Options\Graphics

In order to play at a higher res you will need the res fix available on here somewhere
