View Full Version : Patch 1.5 and Destroyer radar bug?

I still haven't tried 1.5 yet. :o (Edit: 1.4! I mean 1.4!)
One of the most frustrating bugs in previous versions was the Japanese Air Radars that would detect surface ships (which means you) from huge distances.
Did they fix that in 1.4 or will I have to find that mod fix for it again?

Hi NefariousKoel!
Nice to see you here!!
I have installed the U-boat addon. (I'm not sure about the difference between 1.4 and 1.5 except for the german campaign mode and the ability to call for air or naval support)
My experience so far is that the airplanes doesn't detect you by radar.
But when equipped with radar detection equipment, I get the detecting radar signals when airplanes are in the area.
But usually it seems liike they don't turn towards me until I could be spotted visually.
However, if spotted once, I often experience more planes being called to my location.
Anyone else with experiences?
I must add that this is with the Addon, and I'm not sure if they changed anything considering the radar detection on planes from 1.4 - 1.5.

Hey Kakemann!
I meant 1.4 but it should be checked for 1.5 too.
I know that in 1.3, the Japanese DD's air radars would detect your sub from miles away when they shouldn't. It often resulted in escorts spotting you before you could even see them. I didn't like that bug at all, but after much tearing of hair here, our collective community figured out what was going on and one of the modders went in and fixed it so enemy destroyers wouldn't detect you on their air radars and come charging from huge distances at you on the surface.
I didn't notice in the patch notes in the previous 2 versions if the Destroyer air radar bug was ever fixed by Ubi. It was extremely annoying. :dead:
I've not played in quite some time and this is my biggest concern about loading up SH4 again.

Sorry about that ;)
But yeah! I remember that the DD's detected the sub from large distances, but I thought that they were equipped with surface vessel Radars, and these were the reason for detection, but you're saying it was the air radars on these ships?:ping:

I just can talk about the german Campaign.
The destroyers can't detect you on great ranges with their radar. But if you are near enough, they will. Planes can detect you on greater ranges. Seems to be quite balanced. The FumB-26 detects radars rays send out by planes on 20-30km. Sometimes the Lancaster turns towards you and sometimes they fly on. But when a radar equipped plane is closer than 15km they usually detect you.

Yes, the same bug that let your sub's air radar detect surface contacts also worked for enemy DD's air radar. Most Japanese DDs didn't have surface radar in early war but their air radars were detecting you on the surface - often before you were even within visual range.
Someone had modded the Jap air radars & turned them off to prevent such nonsense in the past. I was just wondering if the Ubi team squashed that bug in the latest versions or if I need to put that mod in on a new install. I could test and see if it's still a problem but that'd take some time.
If you are refering to the large number of aircraft which seem to prefer to patrol near where you are, it's not radar that brings them near you.

IJN destroyers were detecting your sub (on the surface) from beyond visual range with their air radars which shouldn't have been happening. There was a long thread about being spotted BVR awhile back and that turned out to be the culprit. I know it was there in 1.3 but I don't know if the dev team ever squashed that bug as I never saw it in the patch notes.

I remember that bug!
It was the radar, because it was far beyond visual range as NefariousKoel stated!

I don't recall the bug (I'd stopped playing between 1.2 and 1.4), but I'm pretty sure it's fixed now. At the very least, my SD radar no longer detects surface ships. I turn off the SJ radar anytime I'm near my home port, and I don't get the surface ship contacts when I do, but aircraft patrolling out of Midway or Pearl still show up.
I remember that bug...
I don't know if UBI fixed it or not, but Duci has it fixed with TM. I simply can't be bothered to play the game vanilla. It just seems so lacking without Ducimus' tweaking.
(I only run 1.4, BTW so I can't really say about 1.5)

Read the 1st post that started the thread and you'll understand why I said what I did in the way that I did.

Yes, that fast and dirty fix for this bug on Japanese DDs was included in TM back then after it was found.
I still haven't got around to firing the game up what with all the others I have going right now but when I do, I'll damn sure double check the stock game. :smug:
