I have a question regarding torpedo load outs. I'm using stock SH3 & the latest Cmdr add-on. I just started a career in the 29th Flotilla with the newest Cmdr version. After finishing my 1st patrol I did some upgrading (engines, batteries & I chose my torpedos for the next patrol: all G7a's) & rewarded the crew for a job very well done (12 ships sunk). I then exited the game.
When I restarted the game for the next patrol it was now Jan. 11 1942. I checked my torpedo load & it had remained the same: all G7a's. Starting the patrol, I left the harbour. To my surprise I found that I now had a "mixed bag" of G7a's & G7e's and a couple of the "new-fangled" G7es Falkes.:hmm: Since I don't like to fool around with escorts the Falke's were pretty well useless to me. Is this a known bug?

Thanks.

Only change your load out when in base before patrol. The game will most probably revert it to the values in basic.cfg upon reloading if you do it in base after mission.
And you will have lost any renown used to get the "new-fangled" torpedoes that becomes available later in the war.

You can also check out Wolfies Tweek Pak. It lets you adjust your standard loadout for any u-boat in any year without digging into the .cfg files yourself.

Edit: Link is in this similar thread:

The homing/acoustic torpedos do come in handy when operating close to a convoy (better yet if you're in between two of the columns). Once a DD passes over you or within 300 meters slapshot one of em at them and either it'll nail them in the aft and blow up the whole stern, or they miss but cause the DD to run away which can give you time to dive deep or sneak out.

The game reverts to the standard loadout (in January of whatever year you happen to be playing in) regardless of the fact that you've changed torpedo types just before going out. I found this out in another career which started in October 1940.

This is off topic but I can't seem to find the information; when I've started careers on Sept. 1st 1940 from St. Nazaire the base does appear on the map. Almost immediately after I leave on patrol, it mysteriously disappears! I find that I have to cheat (hit Return to Base) when I'm out of torpedos as I can't remember the way home. I've checked other threads re: rebasing & St. Nazaire not being on the map until September 20th (there abouts) and found that my cfg file matches up with the suggested solution for that bug. Is there any way to fix the disappearing base bug?

Thanks again for all the help.:)

Between 9/40 and 5/41 the 7th Flottille was transfering boats from Kiel to St. Nazaire. When looking through the boats that were assigned to this Flottille's war patrol records there are a lot of variations. Some went from Kiel to St. Nazaire as early as September 1940, and then operated out of St. Nazaire while others remained in Kiel until it was ready to transfer the entire Flottille there (historically speaking, would need to look it up in the game to see what it is actually set to)
