I am so hooked.

I haven't had a car game since...well, I honestly can't remember. I've always enjoyed the arcadey ones like Ridge Racer, and I had some fun with the old 4-color Test Drive back in the day, but I'd never owned one myself in the modern era till I picked up Need For Speed: Carbon.

Had lots of fun with Carbon. Made me very interested in NFS: Pro Street, but I was leery of PS since I'd heard some bad reviews. All right, I'll DL the demo...

...and while it wasn't horrible, it lost all the cool 'illegal street racing ambience' of Carbon and replaced it with...well, nothing. Liked that the cars could be damaged now, though...why not try something more simmy?

Find a demo for a game called GT Legends. DL it. Two tracks (Well, one track and a shorter version therof) and three cars. Played the damn thing so much I might as well have uninstalled everything else, including Oblivion and SH4, my usual time sinks. Buy the real version bundled with GTR 2, same kind of game, with modern cars.

I've booted up GTR twice. GT Legends is constantly going. I'm obsessed.

Anyone else ever play it? Or other racing sims?

Yeah, I have GTR, GTR2, rFactor, Gt Legends, Race and Race 07. Spend most time in rFactor, though, more than any other game. Great mod community.

Yeah, I've DLed three or four tracks for GTL and all of them have had 'converted from my rFactor' track in the readme file. I'll have to look into that one.

I've got a deep fondness for heavy, hard-to-handle old muscle cars, though, which is probably why I'm enjoying GTL so much. On the second tier of single player now, and the next race is Spa, which I love driving on, but my times aren't that great on it.

Glad to see this thread.:yep: I have all the one's stabiz's has ( I think he tipped me off to some on another forum here.)

Love'em all and if they play with no probs graphicaly , I know it's not a hardware issue on SH3 & SH4 when I have ctd's. Ther almost a test tool in themselves.:yep:

rFactor is da BomB.

rFactor does look pretty impressive. Looks like it'd take a lot of mod downloading to turn it into the type of thing I'd REALLY like, though, and I'm on a satellite connection that'll happily throttle my bandwith if I start DLing whole hog.

Wish there was a sim-type race game with a built in car customizer to the level you see on the NFS series. Even if they dropped any aerodynamics-influencing car mods, custom paint and decorations would be awesome.

IIRC Capt. Vlad There out there in demo if you look hard enough.

Then you can play and make a good decision whether to spend the buck's on them. :yep: That's what I did. I hope this was of some help.

Money doesn't grow on tree's. Unless there Avocadoe's. :D

Yeah, I'll try the demo when the 'last 30 days' thing on my Wild Blue user page shrinks a bit. Never tried an open wheel sim before, but then, I'd never tried a classic car sim prior to GT Legends.

I don't know if you have the wheel and pedal setup.

If you don't no big thing. See if you like this kinda sim first. REALLY see if you like it be fore you invest in the wheel hardware.

I don't. I've considered pedals for flight sims before, but have never had reason for a wheel. Keyboard is working find for me so far...except that after a while, my fingers start to get numb. Ate a wall at Dijon-Prentiss due to that.:D

Admittedly, part of that is due to not...erm...pacing myself. It's never happened on FPS games, though...

You should get a wheel, you will be faster, and its more fun.:)

Btw, have you seen the Power and Glory mod for GTR2? Its basically Gt legends ported to GTR2 with physics tweeks and new cars. It is supposed to be awesome, but I havent tried it yet. (The installer checks that there is a legal copy of GT Legends during install, but you`ll need GTR2 as well)

The reson they did this is that GTR2 has dynamic track changes during a race (dirt build up, etc, etc) and weather changes.

May check it out. How much of a total conversion is it? Some of the things I love about GTL are the 'immersion factors'. Music, color scheme, etc. GTR2's interface is blah by comparison.

stabiz

Dunno, just read that it won a mod award, and is supposed to be alot better than the original. The interface is gone, since you will basically run the game in GTR2, but the music is easy to throw over, just put the mp3`s in gamedate/something/soundsormusic.:)

They have reworked the cars and physics, and added new versions of the cars, like the broad-butted Porsche, etc, etc.

The possibilities of the GTR2 engine is the icing of the cake, though. Just imagine being in a Ford GT40 on the Nordschleife, and then it starts raining ...

Sounds like a recipe for a Captain Vlad-shaped hole in one of those trackside billboards.:D

Just recently reinstaled GTL so am still pretty rusty, but slowly gaining back my speed and consistency. In between the F1 sessions tonight ran some "hot" laps in the GT350 on the Junior Monza track, best time so far 1:08.109. Before that though completed the Mustang challenge in the single player mode to earn some cash, with the stang one question kept coming to mind "Why are the brakes made of wood?"

Anyway, when i get more practice in maybe we could have some Subsim race or something.

I do well on Monza Junior but it drives me batty every time. That first nasty turn just after the bits is a real pain. Not as much of one as the chicane just before the pits though. That said, those two turns are where I tend to pass...

Running a 'stang in the TC-65 Grand Prix season. After race after race at the wheel of the Cortina, I fell in instant lust with the Ford. I don't drive 'cornering' cars as well as those with good acceleration. Helps me compensate for my mistakes.

Can't win a race in the Jaguar Mk II, but I love driving it.

Anyway, when i get more practice in maybe we could have some Subsim race or something.

Love too, but I'm on sat. internet and that half-second latency is a killer. I'd be yearning for something better except I just got this after years of dial-up and I'm loving it despite the drawbacks.

Right now my facorite cars to drive are the AC Cobra 289 and the GT350, the standard mustang though i concider to be completely hopeless, though the Falcon is nice. The Cobra i love for its responsiveness, acceleration and for the fact that its about as forgiving as a mother in law, the GT350 is just a fun car to get sideways.
About Monza junior, yeah i agree, the first turn is a tough one, its really dificult to get a good line through there and if you mess that up your entry to turn 2 and possibly ever 3 are messed up, the chicane itself isnt too bad, but the braking area before it is what makes it tricky.
As a side project I'm going to spend most of my time in the Porsche RSR though, going after the WR in one of those bests, probably on the Zolder circuit, lovely place.

Haven't got a Cobra yet. On the test drives with one, I found it to be a wee bit too responsive I'll have to wait to 'own' one to fiddle with the setup and see if I can make it more Vlad-friendly.

You might get it a bit more Vlad friendly, but it is incredibly unfriendly by default and thats something you can not beat out of it. The nastiness holds especialy true for the Cobra 427, even though run faster laps in it than the less powerful Cobra its a bit too much of ah andful for me to successfully race it.

I'll probably learn to drive it, as it's one of the cars that made me go 'oh man...' when I was considering buying the game.

Looking forward to the challenge, actually. Got one more race in TC-65 (came in fifth at Spa after a guy in an Alfa-Romeo bumped me off the track when I was in the lead on the last lap...revenge will be mine!) before I advance.

It is a fun car to tame, thats for sure.

Gonna make my attempt soon. Finally got past the TC-65 Championship, bought me a new 289 to celebrate.
