:damn: I just tried my first career mission and what a bust. I have to insert a spy, and I am sure my parameters were right. Entered the radius (3 miles) submerged, night time, zero speed, and I had surfaced ---NOTHING.
I don't have a clue.

Huh? Go in on the surface as close to the shore as you can get and shut off the engines. A icon should pop up to allow you launch the rubber raft.

Get in closer...until you get a dialogue box pop up that asks if you want to drop off the agent.

For the commando missions you have to bring the sub to a halt for the event to happen. Spy insert is probably the same.

I usually have to get within 1 mile of the shoreline at a full stop (can't even be drifting) to be able to launch. If you get that close and still have problems, submerge and then surface again.

I really appreciate the help, it escapes me why the developers don't discover this stuff when they build the simulations. It sure would make life easier, and the darn manual really is no help.
Here is another problem for me, on page 72 it states in the last sentence at the bottom of the page-"Read the"Torpedo Armament " section for further information. I must really be dumb, I cannot find this section.
Does anyone know if there as been a post on saving mission and careers? I really don't understand what they want. The career mode give you three choices-which one do I use? Can a player delete a career?
Thanks so much,

All in all, the SH4 manual is a bust. An afterthought at best. You can tell by the 10% halftone illustration of a SH3 U-Boat of all things that adorns the background of most pages. Then there 26 pages devoted to profiles of Japanese ships and American subs that just duplicates the same information the museum section of the sim does. What a tragic waste of space. :nope:
Luckily we have this forum. ;)

I wonder sometimes if they just don't assume we will work it out and share.
This is a great game, but it has a very steep learning curve, and I would still be foundering around on the training missions if it wasn't for this forum
Thanks,

Yes documentation is not one of SH4's strong points.
In the meantime here is a helpful thread

Well the truth is Documentation is never a strong point in any projects. Especially the ones with tight budget and deadline. So long as you can deliver it's A-ok. We'll 10 version's of patches later for fixes.
You can save your position in a patrol by pressing ESC. When you dock at your home base, your career is saved automatically. You can save again manually from within HQ office.
