I've had SH4 since the day 1.2 came out and have pretty good patrols. I have run most mods here and have been running RSRDC since it came out. I decided to give RFB a try along with RSRDC and PE.1.

I chose the May 25 1942 date in a Gato from Pearl and was sent straight to Midway for the big fight. I have run this patrol three times now and I haven't seen as much as a plane. I arrived on 6/3 and spent my time on my grid. The second and third try I ventured out in every direction and have not seen a thing. Is there anything I can do to improve my chances or am I really blowing it somewhere or is this what I really should expect? :88) I have been on the surface most all of the time.

I did not recieve any other orders but I'm not going back empty handed damnit I'll head for the Japanese coast.:shifty:

A while back, I encountered the Midway task forces in late August 1942. The only thing I could figure is that the game default campaign files triggers the setpiece battles at the start of a mission only if within a certain date range, otherwise it'll spawn them the next time you leave port. I left Pearl about a week before the historical Midway engagement, spent 2 weeks searching around the island looking for the enemy, found nothing, refitted, then headed over towards Japan. I made it back to Pearl in late July, ended the mission, and then when I set out on my next patrol in mid-August, I encountered Jap aircraft right by Midway! All the IJN fleets were out there, months later than they were supposed to be. I don't know if that's what's happening here.

I think lurker said a while back that the Japanese are elusive in his RSRDC mod around Midway. They won't be right next to the island, either. The carriers will be out quite a ways and are always on the move.

I got buzzed by a lot of zeroes, but my sub never saw the task force. In real life I think 11 subs were set up as a net and I don't think any of them ever spotted the carriers, either. So, now you know how they felt. ;)
