I've been working on manual targeting, and today I finally managed to hit a small merchant ship in the bow with a torpdeo. It didn't sink, so I surfaced and finished it off with my deck gun. Much to my surprise and gleeful satisfaction, When the fatal deck gun round hit, I heard a bunch of yelling and then saw a group of the merchant's sailors rowing away in a lifeboat. I couldn't believe it!

Is this a new feature found in Sh4? I don't remember ever seeing anything like that in SH3.

I'm running TMO/PE/RSRD. I'm not sure whom to credit for this outstanding bit of realism, but it was the highlight of my patrol watching those guys rowing their arms off!

I also see this feature in SH4...really does add to the atmosphere of the game. Congrats on your first manual hit...now grab a beer (if you are over 21 of course, lets not be crazy here) and do it again...it only gets better! :D

Grats on your manual targeting kill! :yep: It is satisfying isn't it? As far as the lifeboats, those came with the stock SH4 (yes, I've gunned them once or twice, but I usually feel too guilty. Sometimes I'll just spray in their vicinity to get their attention though...) The yelling sounds are part of TMO, I believe...another excellent bit for the immersion factor :up: Glad you're enjoying the experience!

It's in the stock SH4, I believe this was omitted from SH3 because of the Laconia Order

If you thought 1 lifeboat was cool, sink a Fleet Carrier and watch a dozen moving away from the capsizing warship

The AI on those lifeboats can be hilarious. One moment they're sailing away from me, the next there are splinters coming from my props :rotfl:

The first time I saw that, I took the dual 20mm to the lifeboat. :D

Seems like about half of them eventually capsize. They keep stoically rowing anyway. :)

My computer won't even let me play the game, yet I've known about the lifeboats for almost a year.

But then I avidly follow most of the major boards here at SubSim.

Oh, by the way--have you noticed the guys walking around on the decks of the surface ships? Also not in SH3.:sunny:
