Well I was having some minor game issues, Longer loading times etc? So when I went to load my career i noticed I had accumulated alot of saves. So I thought hmmmm I just delete the ones I wont use anymore! I started with patrol one and with one click of the mouse destroyed my entire career! No more 1940! No more Knightscross with oak leaves! No more crew I had carefully built up and trained and rewarded. No more anything!
And I can't blame Bernard for this one!
Why ever deleting ANYTHING without making a backup first :hmm: ^^ ?
Sorry for your loss though.

Ah, newcomers. This was actually discovered and discussed three years ago, right after the game was released. You couldn't be expected to know that, though, since you weren't around then and the Community Manual is no more.
Not criticizing', just sayin'.:sunny:
And thanks for mentioning it. I just hope other new guys take the time to read it.

Same thing happened to me too. I've been playing SH3 ever since it was released and I don't usually delete my saves. I was low on diskspace so I thought freeing some diskspace by deleting old save files. Goodbye best career and crew. :damn:
Did't feel like playing for a while. But I got back on the horse eventually. ;)

Also deleting the default " Player " career can lead to other problems with saves IIRC

Thank-you, Thank-you, and again I say Thank-you. I was one key stroke from doing what you did when I read your post. I can only imagine my reaction if I had done so. My computer would resemble the one on an earlier post wrapped up in duct tape.
Sorry for you loss, but better you that me. :damn:

So you can't open the 'Recycle Bin' and simply restore the deleted folders and files?

If you restart the game after delete?
I doubt it would help.
Files get renamed then,
and a restore would probably cause even more
really cool things to happen.

Hmmm... What I've done lately is that I've deleted the save files manually after finishing a patrol, i.e. when SH3 and SH3Cmdr both have registered the gig as completed and changed my status to "in port before XXX". And I've experienced no problems whatsoever!
Canning them in-game seems, however, to be a different kettle of monsters altogether. I managed to junk my 1st career, too, when I deleted the saves from there :damn:

we should make a list
"what you should NEVER do with your SH3 files" :hmm:

Take out an insurance policy:
Back up C/MyDocs/SH3 after each patrol http://img522.imageshack.us/img522/9708/piratebf4.gif (http://imageshack.us)

Good to know this. I usually delete my older saved games from MIITW, but after hearing this, will not do it in SHIII.

Yes, I can attest to that. After you restart your computer, you are unable to view your saves. Fortunately, in that case, the fix is easy. Just recreate a career called Player, and your old saves come back. Jimbuna (?) has another fix for this IIRC.
Unfortunately, no hope once you tamper with the files within a career.

My careers don't last long enough for storage problems. As I play Did, I delete the career after the funeral.
If I use a save during a patrol, I always delete that OUTSIDE SHIII. No problem then.
